My parents believe that I am schizophrenic. No problem. I had to see 3 pdocs to persuade my father who couldn’t believe it.

I tried to prove to my family I was schizophrenic because I didn’t think they believed me and then they said “trust me, I could see that youre schizophrenic”. Lol ouch.

my family of 7 didn’t even know of my diagnosis of sza…I rest my case…after 18 years!
I think you have sz…you ehar voices…that’s probably the biggest most difficult symptom

Mother and father doubt the severity, went as far as to say Schizoaffective is nothing like schizophrenia and they aren’t within the same spectrum.
They believe schizophrenia has a stigma, so I shouldn’t “believe that I am one”
No matter how much I say “Schizoaffective and schizophrenia are like similar and within the same range of diseases,” she’s adamant that I don’t experience hallucinations and delusions.
They rather call me by my old diagnosis of bipolar. Sorry Ma, doc says this is what I am, so deal with it.
My family didn’t believe I was schizophrenic either. I think people have this made up image of what schizophrenics should look like. Most people are pretty ignorant when it comes to mental illness.
