Here's An Idea That May Help Those Of Us Who Volunteer

I worked as a volunteer for over a decade but received no credit for it by Social Security thus keeping my SSI status and keeping me from having a better situation. One major problem with the SSI work incentive is that it’s designed to get us off Medicaid which due to drug costs we simply can’t do. So what I propose as a solution is to give credit to a volunteer worker by having the company pay for the Social Security and other taxes that they would pay for if they were paying him or her for the amount the employee is working. Therefore the volunteer would get the credit for working, the company would still save some of the overhead and the government would be paid.
