That is really shocking how many are in development. I only think someone should take a psychiatric drug if they absolutely have. Only as a last resort.

I think drug development should increase a lot. The more options we have, the better. Also, the more research done into new meds, the more likely we are to find superior ones or a cure. The current antipsychotics need to be replaced…

Yeah well the current antipsychotics all work through the same mechanism. Blocking D2 receptors. That is what produces the antipsychotic effect. There hasn’t been anything that revolutionary since the 1950s.

I’m really excited to see what this wellbutrin dextromethorphan combination can do for depression as well.

I would not take an antidepressant. I just take an antipsychotic so I can think right and not be psycho.

There are other symptoms to the illness aside from just being psycho. These are called the cognitive and negative symptoms of schizophrenia. Some of these new antidepressants may benefit these domains, if they do, they may be indicated for schizophrenia as an adjunct to atypical antipsychotics, treating more of the symptoms people like you and I suffer from.

I know fully about the negative and cognitive symptoms of schizophrenia. I would not take any additional medication. The Seroquel I take works well and I am not experiencing really any negative or cognitive symptoms. I had terrible negative symptoms a few years ago, but things have improved. Even though I said yesterday I only brush my teeth once a week. I don’t care! I have like no other negative symptoms.
