If you have schizophrenia but taking antidepressants is like night and day difference

And makes the biggest difference compared to antipsychotics. What could this indicate? I started on Effexor and almost all my psychotic symptoms disappeared and I became much better. Could it be that I have psychotic depression instead? Does anyone have similar experiences? I take Latuda and Seroquel too and that probably also have some impact on it.

Welcome to the forum. But we are not here to diagnose you. Please ask these questions from your medical team.

No, effexor was crap for me.

Antidepressants haven’t done anything for my psychosis. I’m on paxil now.

This is something to ask your doctor about. I take Wellbutrin XL and it removes suicidal thoughts. Also gives me a very mild energy boost. It doesn’t really make a dent in my negative symptoms and it had no effect at all on my positive symptoms. My last diagnosis was paranoid SZ.

I’ve been taking antidepressants
since sz onset.
It’s irrelevant to my psychosis.

If your pdoc thought psychotic depression instead of sz he would tell you that

I get mania on certain antidepressants like Lexapro. I do take Luvox though which doesn’t do that.

I take Wellbutrin and it helps with suicidal thoughts. I like taking my antidepressant.

All ssris did for me was chemical castration and terrible mania.

I take one. I think it helps with the fact that im super depressed because i have sz and what my life has become. The lost potential.

You are probably right about that. The sz can make you super depressed.

Hello there. I never got the psychotic depression diagnosis, mostly a diagnosis of schizophrenia. I have sever depression also (cant stop thinking about death, no interest in things I used to live for, constant negativity, hopelessness, suicidal type thoughts). I have been taking a tricyclic antidepressant for over 20 years. This antidepressant helps out with my depression but not the negative types of symptoms from schizophrenia and also concerned it might make positives worse(but I risked it as it seemed to help with suicidal ideation). I take perphenazine to help the schizophrenic and anxiety issues I have. About 4 years ago a low dose of abilify was added and it effects me differently depending on dose. From 2 to 5mg it stops my negative symptoms (and also depression it seems) as a add on, and above 5mg it stops my positive symptoms but my negatives come back.

Welcome!! @Everybody

You could very well have psychotic depression. My sister does. All her psychotic symptoms (voices, paranoia), completely go away on the antidepressant Paxil alone.

The only way you are going to find out for sure is to ask your psychiatrist.

I find an antidepressant morphs the depression into another kind of pain and it’s more manageable. I went off for two months and had to go back on. I take 10 mg zyprexa and 2 mg Valium. I also take propranolol for side effects ( akathisia ) which has little to no effect. Welcome to the community. My antidepressant is Lexapro.
