Are there any hearing impaired folks dealing with schizophrenia here? I would really like to introduce my hearing impaired dad to this forum.
I have it from music. I hear loud buzzing and it can trigger voices. So I’d say there are more.
Is there certain genre of music that you find more helpful than others? My dad has the cochlear implant and I was jamming out to music and he walked by and literally backed up and said… Hey how do I get music on my phone? I was like no problem!! Ill show you… Now he listens to random stuff on spotify but was wondering which genre is better. Or is it vary from person to person…
Thats soo much better than him turning on the vacuum cleaner all day long
Haha yeah Spotify is the best. I listen to a lot of the decades genre for classics and top 100 too. I was in the hospital and having a working phone with music made me a god amongst them lol
lol nice… I just recently acquired a smart phone again and loving it. Having music on tap everywhere you go is bliss… Sittin in the doctors office for 3 hours waiting for my appointment, no problem.
May I ask if you are hearing impaired? Just trying to find my wonderful dad some connections. I’m so disappointed in how things are in america when it comes to the deaf community and mental health resources.
I’m not dead but I hear the buzzing sound a lot and it can create voices so i wouldn’t turn it to loud. Yeah I feel sorry for you lot. We’re all covered here in Australia
Have you ever seen this guy on youtube
Do you think if i told my dad I wanted him to check a video out and showed him videos like this… Could it help him? Cant hurt right?
@ZombiePupper? ???
Hi! I’m partially deaf. I’m not sure how many others are, though. Mine is essentially due to congenital disease, uneven loss in both ears. I typically wear hearing aids although I’m in need of a new pair.
Nice to meet you @ZombiePupper … Hopefully my dad can meet you guys on here some day and realize he’s not alone.
Being able to talk to other people who can relate to what you’re going through can be life changing.
I think it yields some interesting challenges. He’s perfectly welcome here. I’d actually be excited to have someone else with hearing loss around.
Can I ask your opinion on alcohol?
Does it help with the symptoms? Or is it something I should really work with him on stopping ASAP?
It’s recommended to abstain since it’s bad to mix medication and alcohol. Personally, I’m much better sober than I ever was drinking regularly.
You may get some more benefit from this forum.
Ah crap I think i just short circuited and let the flood gates open in my brain haha… sorry bout that. I just figured you know… A person whos been through it would have the best wisdom. I get all kinds of conflicting advice all over.
Thanks for listening zombie. Probably best I just stop thinking and go with the flow. right? haha… oh man im a wreck arent i?
I am very hearing impaired and have been all of my life, since birth. And it only gets worse as I grow older. I’m 58 now. I have two sets of hearing aids that I never wear. I think they are too much of a hassle, much to the chagrin of my friends and family. I have sza.
Hello there… Nice to meet you. Yeah my dad got the cochlear implant like 8 years ago and pretty much never used it until recently. I think he’s trying desperately to drown out the noise in his head. May I ask if you know of any special programs that work with hearing impaired and sz?
