Head injuries can harm hundreds of genes in the brain in a way that increases people’s risk for a wide range of neurological and psychiatric disorders, UCLA life scientists report.
The researchers identified for the first time master genes that they believe control hundreds of other genes which are linked to Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, post-traumatic stress disorder, stroke, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, autism, depression, schizophrenia and other disorders.
Knowing what the master genes are could give scientists targets for new pharmaceuticals to treat brain diseases. Eventually, scientists might even be able to learn how to re-modify damaged genes to reduce the risk for diseases, and the finding could help researchers identify chemical compounds and foods that fight disease by repairing those genes.
Nobody knows, but lots of people are working on them. Just watch this news area of the forum and you’ll see the ongoing news and developments in this area.
how dare you all approach the lord of sz.com without offerings… you all also failed to use his proper title of the lord of the land… taxes just went up 3% for the next 6 months for these disrepects…lol
I remember 3 k.o head injuries… and 1 I fell and hit a cast iron wood heater was unconscious for 48 hours until my land lord came for rent… all rather recent… always wondered if it added to the length and intensity of episodes as both have increased since the last one…pretty drastically…
I’ve only had like 2 head injuries. one time, 3 schoolkids wanted to give me a “knucklesandwich,” but I escaped with only a jab to my head. I couldn’t touch my ear, for a long time.
when 18, I’ve had a more severe injury at home. usually I get these moments when I zone out and my body feels like it’s growing taller or something. It’s a weird sensation and I used to enjoy it. but one time, I was experiencing the sensation and I accidentally fell down on something. there was a lot of red all over the back of my head and hands. I was more angry than scared at first, because I was going to miss out on class. but then I cried in the taxi ride to hospital because I thought I was going to die. they froze and stapled my scalp. then after a week, they unstapled it and it eventually recovered.
My son was diagnosed in 2013. He is high risk because of family tree genetics. Also was diagnosed in grade school ADHD (inattentive type). And was also diagnosed GAD around this time as well. When he was a toddler, he fell down a flight of stairs and landed on his face. He was still (stunned) for only a few seconds, but I’ve always wondered if this was anything significant. At the time, it was very scary! But he seemed fine. My husband, his dad, was so angry at the time because the door was unlocked and there was no stoop or whatever, just open the door and fly down the stairs!! He blamed his brother for this dangerous situation.
My mother told me that when I was a child I had a lot of head injuries, and I just remembered 3 (in a little pool, in the bike with my grandfather so young, and in my bed) and 2 that I heard in a heigh of more than a half meter.
I too remember have headaches, ringings in the ears and sometimes changes in the vision and withe lights…
I hear boxers get some head trauma but you never hear them becoming schizophrenic so I wonder how hard you have to hit your head to become schizophrenic
