Have you ever tried to do a pullup? how many can you do?

one time at the gym a guy told me pullups were the secret to back strength. so i bought a pullup bar that fit on my door frame and would do them every time i walked into my room. i got up to 18 pullups after a couple years, but now i tried them today and could only do 2 haha. i’ve lost a lot of strength…

i remember at the golf course me and my friend would do pullups competitions in the maintenance building and i could always do more than him. he would say that’s because you weigh less, so i threw chains and tied a propane tank to my waist and was able to match his number of reps with the added weight.

a pullup is different than a chin up, where your palms face away from your body, unlike a chinup where your palms are facing towards your body and i think are a bit harder than a chin up.

Now I cant even do one, I am 272lb. When I was 135lb I did like 20-30.

Yeah, I weigh too much to do either a pull up or a chin up. Couldn’t even do one.

I’m so fat now I would break the pull up bar. :joy:

I used to be able to do a good amount though when I was in the military. I can’t remember the exact number though.

my brother was in the military and he was much stronger than me. i’ve watched him do 30 reps on a pull up bar at the gym. and also he used to be able to do handstand pushups, he was a workout freak.

Yeah that’s awesome. I used to be a fitness freak too.

I would always walk around on base when running errands.

I remember running into a lot of the Special Forces Airmen. They rarely drove on base. I think it was because they wanted to keep their muscles conditioned.

yeah my brother was an airborne army ranger. he let himself go after the service though, he put on probably 50 pounds after he got out. he doesn’t work out anymore, but i bought him a running shirt last christmas. i think he’s burnt out and has better things to do now. now that he’s out of the military its not important to him, a little been there done that psychology maybe. it’s funny though because he was a fitness freak for 20 years, then stopped all of a sudden.

That’s awesome. Rangers go through some hella tough training.

I’m kinda the same. I haven’t worked out in years. I still have my muscle on my back and biceps etc. It’s just covered by fat lol.

to start i would 5 sets of 5 reps, then i would do 5 sets to failure. eventually i started having dreams in my sleep of doing pullups lol.

When I was starting to work out in my early 20s I could like five close ones and one wide. But I rather liked to dead lift instead of pull ups back then.

I suck at squats my balance was never good. I have a fear of injuring myself. My friend spotted me for bench press and once I dropped two plates on each side but luckily my friend was spotting me. It could have crushed my neck.

yeah i dont do bench press anymore, just pec flys and pushups. i could bench if i wanted to, but i dont want to build up my chest. i like small pecs and chest on a guy, which is what i have. i mostly want to build up my shoulders and traps and back and arms, and legs of course. but i do still deep squat with light weight, lots of reps, and i also do deadlift. this is when i workout of course, a lot of times after i get done doing deep squats i just want to end the workout, my heart beats through my chest and i get sweaty from just one exercise, i can barely walk up steps after im done with my legs, and then im sore for 4 days after.

yeah you have to be careful having a spotter is necessary if your going to lift heavy.

Yea now I dont workout anymore since having negative symptoms. I just walk in the house back and forth with a step counter.

the most i ever benched was only 205 pounds. this was after high school when i started working out again. i was eating 5 times a day and like 160 grams of protein. the most i ever benched in high school was 195 pounds weighing 142 pounds. i worked out all year though, one of my classes was even conditioning haha run by the football coach.

i remember when i was a freshman and started lifting weights i could only bench 85 pounds, by the time i was a senior i was up to 195 pounds.

My max ever was 180-200lb. I remember incline bench press was harder.

incline is harder, and sometimes i would also do decline, which is a bit easier than incline.
