I think @firemonkey has.
I never have. my son has though, Down syndrome.
I wonder if it’s like the old days where they lie you down
on like a bed or something,
and want you to spill your guts. ha.

I’ve been to marriage counselling so I’ve seen one and I sat in on a session with my ex wife’s psychologist. Wasn’t a fan of the process but I’m lucky to have had some great psychiatrists who I’ve dealt with in my life.
I think it works great for some. Not for me. I process much of my stuff and have friends and family plenty for other issues.
ohhh, I didn’t realize you were married at one time,
thanks for sharing.
it didn’t work then, huh, with staying together?
He was a psychotherapist .He was a jerk. I wanted help to cope better with situations that I struggled to cope well with due to past experiences… He did the ‘If you want to be a good person…’ routine as though i was some kind of moral delinquent.
Been to some good and some bad. The worst had such a thick Russian accent that I couldn’t understand him at all. Was tempted to check him for Bratva tats. The good ones really helped.
hmmm, that’s terrible.
I think many of them think we’re still stuck in childhood.
who knows.
My childhood sucked on the first go so I’m giving myself a do-over. Bubble wands were on sale at the dollar store so I grabbed a couple and had fun making huge bubbles in my back yard today.
@Daze . Freud and that stuff was debunked thankfully years ago. Modern psycho therapy is a lot different but it’s a thing. I think some people do really well with it. Some don’t and it depends entirely on the psychologist. There really are some bad ones that I’ve seen from experience but that isn’t enough to write off a profession.
I know many who swear by having a good chat with a psychologist regularly and things like cbt are proven to help.
ha, I love those things. might wanna try it with our Eliza girl. (doggie)
I’ve done a lot of coloring in adulthood, crayons, and markers.
lots of fun.
yeah. it’s strange how they call that Behavioral Therapy.
I’m seeing a place now, asked about mental health services
they had, and they said it Behavioral Health.
really? I said it’s not that, it’s mental illness,
and she said, That’s just what we call it.
I worked in a teen behavioral health school,
are they all related? I don’t think these kids were diagnosed.
Teaching people to think about their lives and living isn’t a bad thing. I think cbt when it works teaches people to learn skillls to better live with their issues. I’m sure there’s some here who’ll fill you in but it’s not all about talking etc. We all come from the same general problems but we all have different ways of dealing with things…Some just don’t have the skills others have.
by the way, I’d do it much differently today,
when the teens in that school called me
so many expletives
it’s changing thoughts and what you say right?
is that really considered, behavior?
what’s the overall outcome, sometimes hear it on here, benefits.
I don’t think it’s that. It’s giving you the tools to think around problems. Thought itself is a problem for some! So giving you the tools to adapt to circumstances that are alien or troublesome to you. So. Basics of thinking to keep calm etc…
sorry to say, but Bunk!
I have been to an occupational therapist, not sure if its the same as psychologist.
what about ‘mindfulness’ they try to teach you while on the unit. yeah right.
did you get to do music therapy?
we’ve done so many things with my son.
lots of sensory.
No but she made me do some IQ tests and prescribed me tasks to do. Honestly it did not help me.
Honestly. I’m not the person to talk to about therapy but I’ve seen others who hopefully will add especially about cbt.
