Have mania

How in the world did I get mania? I’ve been diagnosed schizophrenic but I’m presenting symptoms of mania. Just came from doctor’s appt.

Maybe you have schizoaffective?
Discuss this with your pdoc.

I just came from there. He said I was having mania.

Maybe he will change your diagnosis later on.
He wants to give it more time and keep an eye on it.

Did he add a mood stabilizer or adjust your meds?

Oh ok. I’ll wait to see what he gives me after a while.

@Cici2 did your psychiatrist add a mood stabilizer or adjust your meds?

He kept me on cymbalta and seroquel.

Wow you are on an antidepressant.
This could be triggering your mania or worsening it!
Talk to your doctor about it.

Really? I had no idea they caused mania. That’s very interesting.

Antidepressants can trigger manic episodes.
I was a lunatic when I was on an old school Antidepressant.

I have sza. Wave is right; an antidepressant can be really bad for mania. My pdoc took me off of bupropion for this very reason. Your pdoc may be taking a conservative approach to see how your symptoms develop. Have you ever suffered from major depression? If so, how long did it last?

I like this description of bipolar-type schizoaffective disorder best: It’s like schizophrenia and bipolar disorder had a baby, and schizoaffective disorder is the baby.

This is the first time experiencing this mania. Usually I’m just meh.

That’ll be hard to explain. I already felt like I had too many things going on since I have clinical depression and sz alone.

It can be really hard to distinguish between depression that is a result of living with MI and depression that is part of the MI itself. The next time you see your pdoc, you can always ask about sza.

I really hope I don’t have it. Sz is hard enough to deal with.
