Have any of you experienced spacing out (depersonalisation) and how do you overcome it

I keep having recurring experiences of spacing out (depersonalisation).
Defintion: Depersonalisation is sometimes described as feeling like youre observing yourself from outside your body (spacing out).

How do I stop this experience?

I know it is easier said than done but try to distract yourself with activities of some sort to take your mind off it

but how do I stop the exerince itself. Because when I go through it, it lasts for about 2 hours, observing myself from outside my body, coupled with paranoia

Worth mentioning to your pdoc if you haven’t. As sounds like a med tweak is in order.

I’ve had this, though not to the extent of requiring treatment. It happened during my worst traumas.

I hate it when I float out of my body. I’ve had some trouble with this during some high stress or anger spikes. It’s had to get back in once I’m out.

This is just me… I know this sound weird, but sometimes focusing on something tactile with my hands… focusing on feeling the tree bark or feeling the water out of the tap got me back in my body. .

Other times I just have to calm down and slowly get back in. It’s not something I can usually consciously just control. It usually just takes time and coming back down.

@karl good luck and I hope you find something that works for you.

I may be wrong - but I think this is largely a stress / anxiety based response. If you get the stress / anxiety treated - I think you won’t experience this any more. Talk with your doctor.

Here is some info:

Treatment for Depersonalization:

Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) - CBT can significantly help patients view their symptoms in a nonthreatening way and eventually stop worrying about them completely.

Medications - There are no specific medications that are approved for the treatment of depersonalization disorder. However, doctors may prescribe drugs used to treat anxiety or depression, such as SSRIs or benzodiazepines.
