I have been on Haldol for about 6 years. It has worked great between the dosage of .25-.5mg.
I usually would take around .5 mg for the last 6 years, a little less. I’ve been living a normal life.
But I recently started feeling very scared and terrible. I had to go up to 1mg. This is the most I’ve taken! What is going on?
I can’t say what’s going on for you, but I find that every few months or so I have break-through psychotic symptoms that needs a slight medication increase.
That being said, I’ve been on a lot of medications, so perhaps that’s just me.
I’m on Clozaril now, I only required a 50mg increase to 350mg and I’ve been good.
Is it possible that your body gets used to meds and they stop working as well over time?
I asked a Dr. about these and she said no, Haldol wouldn’t function like that because it is
not like some addictive drug or alcohol.
I hate having to go over .5 mg. I start to feel weighed down and more tired/ heavy… etc.
At .5 or less I have almost no side effects. However I can’t be going out of my mind. Yesterday
I felt so bad that I popped another .5mg on top of the 1mg I had already taken just so I wouldn’t
want to run out of my body!
I think the only reason Haldol works so well for me is that I take such a low dose. If I had to go higher
than 2mg I’m sure I would start feeling some of the nasty side effects.
I already can feel my brain atrophying at this higher dose.
The same thing has happened to me when I was on 20mg of haldol and I had to increase mine to 30mg. However it made me restless and I’m now on a different drug.
The restless is hard to deal with, I’m 5mg and it’s still very noticeable. I’m hoping to switch to Latuda and start taking Sarcosine and NAC. Hope that helps.
