A ton of people here have. Usually it does not end well. My symptoms have always come back.

Generally the consensus is if you’re multi-episode, you’re 99% probably going to have another episode again without medication and the only reason doctors agree to help you go off an AP in the first place is because they don’t want you attempting it on your own and messing up and going off the deep end.

I’ve tried cold turkey twice recently and my voices always come back, to where I keep freezing up mid-conversation, trying to hear what they are talking about.

I’m like a zombie without the meds.

Hmm. I am bit disappointed but a ray of hope that i only had one episode. let’s see what happens i am trying my luck

Ya. Doesn’t end well. I end up getting sick again.

We should always reduce the dose gradually over period of months. Brain gets adapted for the drug so cold turkey will definitely cause problems .

Well best of luck to you. Go slowly and if you notice your symptoms picking back up when you reduce please go back to your normal dose right away and don’t do what I do and just wait for ages in denial until things get to crisis point again.

I’ve tried several times. It never worked. Most of the times I did it without Dr.'s supervision, but one time I did. I was also taking large doses of ephedrine and caffeine, and I was working out. That really got the adrenaline flowing. I totally ruined a family get together on Thanksgiving. They were sitting in the den making nice conversation, and I was pacing back and forth fuming about death and destruction. They finally called the cops on me and had me committed. When I tried to do it without Dr.'s supervision it was worse. I started actively hallucinating. It was bad.

If you had an initial diagnosis of psychosis due to substance abuse, it’s possible that you may be okay. If it’s anything else, chances are the symptoms will just return.

I weaned myself off over the course of a year. I only lasted three months without the meds in my system. But now I’m on a better regimen of meds.

i stopped taking them for months. I had sleep interuptions every night for couple months. I’m not sure what caused my sleep problems. I guessed that it was either withdrawal from meds…or my coffee consumption. probably the coffee consumption.

If you haven’t then you are not alive. My longest attempt was one day. The drugs are bad but the voices are worse. Still all of us will do it at some point.

I’ve heard a hundred or maybe even two hundred stories of people getting off medication. It usually ends badly the vast majority of the time.

Personally I am sick and tired of hearing about people wanting to stop their meds…when you have the flu you take medicine for it…same with schizophrenia…you need meds to function !! go away !!

He’s doing it with doctor guidance at least. He’s doing it responsibly. Let him try.

I don’t care !! it’s a stupid idea.

Like @eighteyedspy23 mentioned, your symptoms will probably return. But everyone’s different. I was an idiot and dropped my meds cold turkey. I hope your reduction helps

Sometimes I feel the meds cause some of the symptoms to begin with. I just had severe depression and dissociation in the beginning. Now I have psychosis periodically. My dad thought if I gave my brain a chance of healing by NOT drinking energy drinks and smoking cigarettes, that I might heal. I think he’s in a denial a bit but maybe he’s sort of correct? Now I’m SZA. I’m obese too.
