This is really supposed to be about those you have died though. I think its being a bit confused with veterans day.

Yes, Memorial Day is about those that died in service.
many members of my family served but my grandpa was a prisoner of war in WW II and he raised me until I was six…him and grandma on both sides…he always talked about his war days…what a great man I think he was.
A very solemn Memorial Day full of rememberence for those who gave their lives to keep our country free
