Happy Hannukkah-chanukah. Does anyone know why there are two different latinisations of it?

Incidentally, part of my paranoid delusions was that the Jews were after me! :open_mouth:

I hope to do some work on Hanukkah some time today. It is very important to recognize Jew during this festive season, and when we say “Merry Christmas” was also mean, “Merry Christmas AND Happy Hanukkay.” It’s just too wordy to say all that.

I think Hanukkah is the anglicized version while Chanukah is spelled the way Jewish people actually pronounce it with the Ch.

I think I get it: in English, “ch” is pronouned as “tsh” (as in “change”), and in Hebrew, “ch” is a different sound – perhaps it is like the “ch” in German (words like “ich” or “ach”)?
