3 months ago I was on Haloperidol 5 and before that I was in hospital 10 and 7, my doctor decreased it by 1/4 every 3 weeks that sees me. Now I take 1.5. I had no problems of hearing voices or psychosis.
Before, I was not feeling well because of Haldol, now it’s few days that I take 1.5 and feel good.
But hasn’t she decreased it rapidly? I couldn’t live with more dosage though and I am happy she did what I wished too.
Also, do you know if after decrease you hear voices, how long it would take after it’s decreased?
Thank you.

That’s not too rapid but it is a considerable decrease. Every case is unique so you need to work with your doctor. There is no real way to know how much is enough or too much, apart from when you start experiencing symptoms you know you need to go back up

Thank you for your reply. Also, do you know after you quit or decrease meds, how long would it take to possibly hear voices?
Not really, I don’t get a lot of voices myself. I do get paranoid flavour auditory hallucinations. Personally, some of the early warning signs for me are paranoia, elevated mood, hyper vigilance, and anxiety. Triggers/warning signs are personal though so try and figure out what they are for you and catch it before you end up having full volume voices.
How long depends a lot on the person, the medication, the amount of reduction. What you probably could say though is that 2 weeks without any med and there is a likelihood in that time you would hear something.
Thank you for your reply. I haven’t had any psychotic symptoms since I am on meds even low dosage…
I wanted to know how much haldol can be decreased still…
Only you or your doctor would know that. Further, this is a more difficult question to answer when you’re looking at lowering as the guidelines for no longer apply when you start move into sub-therapeutic dosages.
FYI dosage range for Hdol is 0.5-2 mg so I would say 0.5mg is probably going to be your floor with your Dr but you really need to be asking them these questions

I wish my doc would hurry up and reduce my haldol doses. I don’t like this med at all.
