A few months ago I was going through a rough time and my doctor added Quetiapine (Seroquel) to my meds. Before that I was just taking and 100 mg monthly injection of Haldol Decantoate and supplementing it with 1 to 4 mg tabs of Haldol as needed. Now the doctor is having me stop taking the Quetiapine and has allowed me to supplement 2 mg to 6 mg Haldol. I just got my shot and have been taking 2 mg but that does not seem like enough extra help for the first week I don’t know if I want to take 4 mg in the first week after my injection. Anyone have trouble coming off of Quetiapine? What is your experience with Haldol?
Just a little too agitated, (Also taking a little Clozapam every other day - I have been taking Clozapam for over a year as needed for anxiety - she now told me to take 0.5 mg every other day for a while)
That’s the amount I was taking 25 mg - sometimes 50 mg. I didn’t care much for the Seroquel. I’ve been on it before. At one time it was only Seroquel (800 mg) and Depakote. I hated it. In the State Hospital they switch me to the Haldol Injection. That works much better for me. I’m just afraid I might be taking too much Haldol.
I can’t come off Quetiapine (400 mg). If I do, I’ll begin to feel stomach pains or nausea. If I ever had to come off completely, the stomach pains or nausea would last at least a week, unless the doctor gave me something to stop nausea. Plus, I need the AP with my AD (Sertraline 200 mg) daily to restore neurotransmitters.
Thanks, I don’t think this feeling is in my imagination. The doc said I could take up to 6 mg haldol for agitation. I’m taking 2 mg every day right now (in addition to my shot) I might take 4 tonight. It has been just under a week since I stopped taking Seroquel.
I started back on the Seroquel in September because I was having quite a lot of mental torment and euphoria. (I think I might have started rapid cycling with the Bi-Polar sza) I quickly went to 200 mg of Seroquel.plus my 100 mg monthly injection of Haldol and some take as needed Haldol 1 to 4 mg pills. I was able to reduce the Seroquel to around 25 to 50 mg a night by late November. The doctor told me to stop taking the Seroquel entirely on the 20th of December and she increased my PRN of pill Haldol to 2 to 6 mg a night. To answer your question, yes I have withdrawal symptoms from stopping Seroquel. Mainly with increased mental torment. I just took 6 mg of Haldol tonight and that seems to help some. I also took a 25 mg Benadryl which also helps. I haven’t noticed the stomach problems. I’ve only noticed an increase in the Psyc problems from stopping the Seroquel. (The doctor would rather not have me on Seroquel because of my Diabetes)
Haldol was extremely unpleasant for me, but I guess that isn’t the case with you. I was on the decoate shot for a number of years, and I was totally demoralized the whole time. If Haldol isn’t giving you problems, maybe you should increase it. I’ve been on Quetiapine for around ten years. I can’t really tell I’m taking it. Quetiapine sedates some people, and they have problems with it because of that, but I don’t get any of that. I’m starting to wonder if I should discontinue it because of its lack of any appreciable effect on me - save the taxpayer the expense of paying for it.
Yeah, the Haldol works very well for me. I did increase to 6 mg (PRN of pills) tonight and I am doing much better now. I took them a few hours ago. I think they calculate the shot at 10 to 15 times the daily dose. So the shot gives me 10 to 15 mg effect and adding another 6 mg helps quite a bit. I had problems with stiffness when I was on Haldol in my twenties. It doesn’t bother me much now that I am in my fifties. I was on quite a few different meds in between then and now.
