So I’m taking Haldol. I’m prescribed 10mg at bedtime but thanks to an old vial I have lying around I’m also taking 5mg in the morning. Will have my psychiatrist make that official on the 22nd. But I’m wondering whether I should ask about getting the depot injections instead of the tablets. Good thing would be I only have to get it once a month but how would the side effects differ? Would they be really bad for a few days after the injection and then go away? How does that work? I do have trouble remembering my meds sometimes and I think this would help but is it a bad idea?
I’m on the haldol shot and I don’t have any side effects. I like it better than pills.
Does it just feel like a regular shot, or does it burn really bad?
No it doesn’t burn

My psychiatrist says that the depot version of the meds work better than the pills. I once were on Risperdal depot and Clopixol depot. It is better to to take the injection if you tend to forget to drink your meds
Yeah especially when you have to take something 3 or 4 times a day, as with Risperdal. I wish there were a depot form of Neurontin because I forget my mid-day dose fairly often. I think I will ask when I see her on the 22nd, if my psychiatrist will give me the depot instead of tablets. Just so I don’t have to worry so much about forgetting to take it. If I miss a dose of Haldol I seem to notice it over the next 24 hours or so, voices will get a little louder… And then they get back under control when I take my next dose.
For some ppl depot starts running out around when next dose is due. This might b an issue for u or it might not.
That could be solved by having the injection earlier, instead of every 30 days maybe every 25 days if that’s when it starts to wear off, right?
I take depixol decanoate. The haldol depot is also a decanoate preparation I think.
I have a lot less side effects from the depot compared to pills. It is also more convenient. The haldol depot is cheap too.
Idk, some people use a combination of depot and tablets, I think @turningthepage does that with abilify. Listen to Jimbob’s advice, he’s on loads of different meds so he has some perspective (Idk if he found the right combination/doses yet.
I was on the Haldol shot for a long time. If I had been on the pills the temptation to quit taking them would have been too strong. I hate Haldol in all its forms, but I really hate it in its pill form. That drug turned me into a zombie.
I used to but now I’m only on tablets.
Fell asleep at 7ish and forgot bedtime Haldol and all my other bedtime meds…
I’m on an injection and it’s a lot better than having to take pills every day.
