Just like everyone here I have some good days and some bad days. Lately it’s been more like bad weeks. What are some of your grounding techniques that have helped you through a paranoid thoughts or delusions? For me, when I find myself being paranoid or my head is racing about whatever delusion it decided to focus on for the moment, I try and stop and think, “look at what you’re really suggesting. That people can hear your thoughts? Are out to get you? Watching you?” Etc. I try to be as logical as I can, but sometimes it doesn’t always work so just looking for some advice here from you guys.
I am still actively trying to find a doctor to prescribe me some meds - will be a first for me. Have been dealing with this illness for over 20 years with no meds. It’s just a long process in Canada.
Personally I find that dealing with it without medication is mission impossible. That’s not to say that I will never be able to quit meds, but it would require long term stability to even try.
I find high dose niacin calms down my inner voice. I take 500mg every other day, but I don’t know if it will do anything for paranoia.
Other than that I try to live in the present moment and not dwell on the past, and also not try to figure out what my delusions mean, because that is a serious dead end. Life passes me by if I get stuck trying to figure out stuff like that and I never get any answers any way.
Well I’ll take that as a compliment. I have been dealing with this with no medication for so long and it’s been so f’ing difficult. I’m proud of myself for the most part, but I think I’m as far as I can get without meds. I used to be really against medication in general, but I have to try something new, because my old tactics aren’t working for me anymore.
And you’re right. It’s best not to sit and try to dwell on anything or try to figure anything out. Just have to keep pushing forward.
Think about what you are doing, say im doing something, thinking something, i am
Realize you are going to have wierd thoughts and you they will bother you some, try not to worry or panic
Talk casually, dont pressure yourself
