Graduated a university with a top grade. You can do it too!

Hi I’m Korean guy. 26 years old.

I was diagnosed with schizo at 16 years old.

My main symtom was relational thinking. I thought everyone knew what I was thinking.

'Everyone would hate me." “I will be bullyed by that person” - I always thought everything

in a bad way and related it to me.

I dropped the high school in 18, and was hospitalized for 3 months.

And I was in a day care center about 1 and a half years.

After hard period, I entered the university at 21 years old

I joined the basketball club in my univ. I didn’t play well but I was in good relationship with club members and did a club activity for 5 years.

I tried to adjust to the university. And I got best grades always. Also I had many friends.

This Fabulary, I graduated the university with a grade 4.3/4.5 and with many happy memories.

Even though I had serious mental problem, I achieved many things eventually.

my drugs are abilify 4mg, Sollian 800mg, xnax 1mg, and two other drugs which are sedatives

( I’m not good at English. maybe some spellings are wrong. But I guess you can understand it )

Now I’m preparing to get a job. Korea is not a good country to get a good job easily. But I would try

till I find a stable and well paid job.

This is my story. What I want to say is ‘never give up’ . Even though you are in a dispair, stand up one more time. I didn’t contain my whole story but had many difficulites to go through it.

You can do whatever you want to do. Just follow the right direction and try hard. You will get it.

I always wondered where I’d be or what I’d be doing if I was diagnosed sooner. Inspirational story, thanks.

We are most influenced by what we see

You can thank your peers for your success

Do you have any symptoms now and are you still on AP’s, when was your last episode?

My doctor said now I have no symtoms that are related to schizo.

but I am weak at stress and feel tired easily. I should be careful to live like a normal person.

Do you still take meds?

Sure. I take many drugs everyday. Important thing is not a number of pills. correcting a symtom is the most important thing I think.

I think you have an amazingly motivating story, mine is a similar story. I landed a good job that doesn’t require education and it would not be feasible to go after an education at my age , to make a similar salary. Meds have worked good for us and we have worked hard to be where we are. You probably live a more normal life as I see you are very social, I am not so much and really have little desire to be as I wasn’t prior to sz and I think it’s just in my personality. I find my self like you wanting to help people by sharing how we have overcome our illness. There are however people on this forum that have extreme cases of sz and the meds don’t work as well, not saying our cases were not extreme. But, some people can’t tolerate the meds or the meds don’t help them as much. I just wanted to say to those people that we understand, and it’s unfortunate that your meds are not working. But they have made meds that worked for us and the probability that some other med or a new one could work for you is out there. We wish you the best on your recovery.

How did you balance academics and athletics (basketball). College is hard without the extra commitment.

How long were you doing well before things dropped on you? What’s your story?

Good for you OP. I’m just not the school type though… I think some people with SZ can be but not me.

English writing degree

Requires additional education

I failed many times getting into paying jobs

I’ve done certificates though

Do you write for a hobby? Sorry to hear about the job attempts, are you still trying or have you become frustrated?
