Thanks @Headspark …
I have been on and off Abilify. It works well while I’m on it. Off it, I get hospitalized. It took me about three to four months to get used to it. Initially, I had insomnia, anxiety, nightmares, irritability, and some psychosis still. After six months, I felt a whole lot better. Now, I sleep like a baby on it. I was really eager to take it because nothing else worked for me or the side effects were really bad. It is not as potent as Zyprexa or Clozapine but it is effective about 95 percent of the time for my psychosis. Right now, I hear some voices again but know they will go away with time as long as I take my medication. The side effects of Abilify are not as bad as the other meds. I am still chubby and sleepy at times but can work on these if I wanted. I am doing burpees now and drinking coffee. I feel fine for the most part. I work and am independent. Nobody is helping me. I do know some medications are just trial and error. So, what works for me may not work for everybody else. Best wishes!
Thanks @ciaociao1 for info, just what I needed to hear.
It has helped me a ton. I haven’t found anything else as effective. But at first when I started it I had issues with thinking it affected my mood etc. those went away. The worst side effects I’ve heard are restlessness. I’m on 10mgs now so less than before. I hope it helps you and brings you some relief from symptoms. I don’t have paranoia or hallucinations on it at this dose as much.
Day two
Ive been prescribed ten mg,but dont feel like its enough
It wears during day,and i feel a bit depressed.
Will it pass away?
I take ten in the morning.
It does vary person to person so just be self aware to see how it’s going
I also switched from Zyprexa to Abilify about 9 years ago.
I gained a lot of weight on Zyprexa and got diabetes 2 from it.
Abilify wasn’t a smooth ride all the time. I started on 15mg but relapsed. Then on 20 and at some stage I went up to 30mgs but that totally knocked me out.
For the last few years I’m on 25mg,10 in the morning and 15mg at night. It kept me out of hospital and it is the best AP I have ever used.
Thanks,I will see with my pdoc about increse.
After Zyprexa it seems less potent.
Zyprexa is very sedating and powerful AP that’s probably why Abilify feels less potent.
Abilify made me feel dizzy for 2 or 3 days after I increased the dosage but I quickly adjusted and felt fine again.
Thanks @anon18305065 …
I was on Abilify and switched to Latuda. That seemed to do the trick and work well with my combo of meds. I’ve been on same combo of med for the past 4yrs and it’s been working great…knock on wood

I was on Abilify for a while. I gained a lot of weight very quickly and it didn’t quite work for me. The longevity wasn’t there. Its medicinal abilities died out quickly and definitely didn’t get me out of crisis mode. I’ve been on a combination of medications for years and was in the process of finding the right combination of medications. We switched out two of my meds for two new ones and Abilify was one of them that we switched out. I didn’t lose any weight right after replacing the Abilify but I do remember putting on pounds when I started taking it. It seemed like it was worked at first…at least for me, but my love ones around me didn’t think it was working and I ended up back in the psych ward and jail. I’ve heard good reviews about it from others though. If you do give it a try please stay committed for at least a month, there were some side effects but keep taking them as directed. This is a mood stabilizer so playing around with this med will make things worst. Take care
I am on 10mg of Abilify, and find it does level out my mood a bit. However, the voices are still there.
Maybe time to talk to my doctor about upping it to 15 mg
It’s different for everyone but it has proven risky impulse side effects, I experienced some personally.
I was encouraged to up abilify to 15 mg from 10 mg per a member on this board and thank god I did.
It was one of those things where I didn’t really know what was going on.
I function much better now
@anon99082702 excellent. That makes me hopeful
I experienced all these side effects from Abilify. They started after 1yr and got worse until I stopped Abilify after 8yrs.
I take abilify matiana 400 mg in jection once a month. and doing well no side effects as well, but take boost of it mid day for it to last all day
