Can you get a professional to look at the house?

My aunt bought a summer home and it needs a lot of work. She regrets buying it.

you can handle that? buyer be careful…I would have it inspected to fully understand what needs to be done.

That house ended up having too many structural problems (bad foundation, etc), so the agent sent over some more possibilities in my price range. I favorited the ones I want to see.

Its not a bad thought, but thats the last thing i want to do on a limited budget. The keys to me are no foundation problems, no water leaks, no critters, no termites, etc. Floors, walls, electrical, etc are things that I can deal with. I did electical work for 5 years. Im a bit rusty, but i can probably do what needs to be done. I did several floors in my last house…and drywall patching isnt that hard…so…im looking for some work, but nothing outside of my skill range.

I think so. Some inspections are required anyway…termites, etc.

Wow, that’s really exciting @Bowens. Good luck with your search!

I looked at a few houses in my new area a few years ago, and I remember one had knob-and-tube wiring. It would have cost about $20k to replace!

How did it go dude?

Yea foundation problems are bad lol

I saw a video the other day of a couple who bought a house blindly AS IS. and when they went inside all the joists under the main floorboards were completely torn up by drug addict squatters I think. They really know how to make a home unsellable and thus forever theirs these days I guess.

Who could have known tho… I guess thats why you always gotta inspect.

An inspection can let you know if you need to worry about any of this if you get a good inspector

yes, but I am not going to pay an inspector for every house that I look at. It would cost a fortune. If I pay an inspector for 10 houses im going to burn up a lot of money. I need to be able to determine some of this on my own before I pick one that I want.

Nice dude… I wonder if there’s any good books, podcasts, or YouTube channels on the topic. Might be a good resource. Mold is also an issue sometimes especially after a flood

Going to look at another house tomorrow afternoon. Looked at outside and it looks pretty good. Peeked in windows. Floors all need done but this is the kind of place im looking for. Something that is a bit of a project. Its withing the “Dream Project” area of my city which gives you 20,000 for fixing the house up if its in that area.

Oh - I didn’t mean for every house. I meant for the one you really hope to get, then get an inspector for that particular house. Sorry if I said it differently, that’s what I meant.

Awesome Bowens! Hope you find a cool pad. I’m looking for apartments myself, by applying for Section 8. I wanna move by my grandpa, and look after him but have my own place.

Not sure what the market is like where you are but there’s a lot of competition for these project homes as builders etc try to buy them to sell for profit

Looked at another house today. Was in too bad of shape. Looking at least 3 tomorrow, probably 4.
