Going to addiction recovery group tomorrow

Its at my church. I’m kinda nervous to be around a big group of people, haven’t done that in years. Has anyone been to a recovery group like this before? And if so, what should I expect?

Good luck!

I never personally went to a group, but I had a key worker when I was 17-18 who got me clean

Never looked back

Hope this intervention helps you! Let us know how your first meeting goes

Been attending AA for 30 years, it is the reason I’m still alive and doing well. You’ll find them to be very supportive.

It’s much easier to beat an addiction if you’re involved in a group. Best of luck, it’ll be fine.

A lot of groups are on zoom now and you don’t have to go in person. You also don’t have to turn your camera on either.

In parking lot now, waiting for dad. Social anxiety kicking in hard coz it looks very crowded. I will get through, but wish me luck. Just gotta do it.

Thanks for info. I may go with that route if I don’t like this group

It was not for me ultimately. I liked hearing about people’s recoveries and stories, but it got very religious in certain parts. Some people talked about how certain things on Earth are of the devil. I have faith and believe in God but all that is kind of weird to me.

It also was very up close and personal interaction. I was not comfortable because of that.

I am still proud of myself because I spoke up and told some of my story. I’m gonna find an online group, AA or AN based, that isn’t religious.
