it could be untrue and irrational even if beneficial though. some people argue religion is irrational and untrue but still beneficial to the believer.

Religion/spirituality that lifts you up is a good thing. I don’t believe in the stuff the same Salvation Army does, but I’m very glad they helped me get off the streets a couple decades back. There are clearly some benefits. However, if your beliefs become so fanatical they destroy your relationships and ability to earn a living, it’s probably time to get some help.

Im technically a Christian but it has never and still doesn’t fulfill my life on the contrary it seems to have ruined it, so I can’t help you there.

But I think that having a warm piece of meat to lie to you and spend your money is way overrated.

I’m a christian that went through a schizophrenic breakdown too. At the time I thought God was the one talking to me, and then after a while I thought God had left me and I was hearing people, angels, and demons. Then by the end of it, I thought God was telling myself to go get myself arrested, or commit suicide. It’s really hard to know what the voices are, because some of them can be eerily accurate, but the vast majority of the time they are false, and that’s how you know they are not from God, because God is truth 100% of the time. For instance, the voices told me, among literally thousands of other things that weren’t true, that someone within my family or extended family would die soon, and then a couple of months later, one of my uncles died out of the blue in his 50’s. My grandma died within about a year after that. Sometimes I wonder if they are demons, but they can’t be God because they are wrong the vast majority of the time. If they aren’t true 100% of the time, then they aren’t trustworthy. You have to really stick to the Bible in order to know God’s true nature, you can’t trust the voices. It’s really tempting to trust the voices, or want to listen to them, for reasons that I’m not entirely sure of, but it’s best not to succumb to them, cuz they often just lead to trouble. You’re probably not entirely delusional, and I shy away from saying it is demonic possession, cuz medicine can make the voices go away. I think you should read the Bible and pray for faith to regain your faith. Just because God can know everything that is going to happen, doesn’t mean he doesn’t allow us some free will. We will never have as much control as God does, who is always in control, but we still do get to make our own choices. I think that God shapes everything based on already knowing everything that we are going to do, but we still had the free will to do good or evil. For instance, Joseph’s brothers were going to kill him, but sold him into slavery in Egypt in Genesis. While it was their free will to do that to Joseph, it was ultimately God’s will, because Joseph was then able to interpret Pharaoh’s dream and save many people from starvation, including his family that sold him as a slave. Joseph says so himself.
