i have an assessment due on the 17th for direct care payments. i didn’t qualify last time as my mum was helping me but she says if she has to stop in order for me to get the care i need then that’s what’s going to happen. so i’m reapplying for help with cooking, cleaning, shopping, dog walking, gardening and showering. i know that sometimes i do a lot but it’s not all the time and i don’t think that that is fair on the kids. i would like them to have a clean house and proper food everyday and not just when i get a happy phase going on. so that’s what i’m applying for…anyone else have paid carers?
I struggled with the house duties for awhile the last few years. Got to the point of a court case with the landlord. Before the court case was a six month wait to get help with any of the services. So after the case I got some help with the garden and housework. I had only meant it to be a temporary setup as I got back on my feet. Because of that it was support with doing the housework. So I was doing the housework once a week with a support worker for a few hours. But was incredibly limited what the support worker would do. Who I’m gathering wasn’t that well trained or qualified to deal with someone in a bad way. So ended that in the end. But kept the gardening support which is once a month for $10-$20.00 for a couple of hours and they do the work alone. Have heard of lot better services so that’s pretty much the horror story.
I applied for self directed support with the help of a social worker(that I had temporarily). The immediate idea was to get me help cleaning the flat which would have been £24-25 a week but they worked out based on the form that was filled in that a budget of £92 a week was needed.
It fell through (social worker pulled the plug) because due to income I got through benefits I would have had to find the £92 a week myself.
As I said to the social worker If I could have guaranteed keeping the benefits that prop up my income then I could have managed the £92. However if I didn’t qualify for the DLA replacement,PIP, which is a distinct possibility, then the massive drop in income would mean that no way could I afford to fork out the £92 a week.
The support workers who had hoped that self directed support would give me support after their time limited intervention ended were very disappointed but powerless to do anything.
Wishing you luck .
you can always re-apply once you get on p.i.p. that’s what i’m afraid of, that they’ll say i have to pay for it myself. i’m getting a four grand loan soon for a new car so i won’t be able to afford the help if i have to pay for it. that’s why i applied because my car is on it’s way out and i need a new one to take max to and from school and do the shopping, dentist, doctors etcetera. plus cocoa’s (dog) food alone is 56 pounds a month, 100 a month on tobacco…i should quit really i guess, plus food for the month, car tax and insurance, vets bills for cocoa’s dysplasia, phone, breakdown cover. i can’t really afford to pay anyone much.
i know they want 3 months bank statements so i’ll take a look in a mo and see what exactly i will be able to afford. xxxx
Hope you can get this Jayne.
Are you getting this through the government or state?
This would be something I would like to look into for my son. Really, he just needs a ride all the time for errands.
It would be great to get this through social services so I would not have to pay.
good luck!**
i am on disabilty and have been for nearly a year now …it has helped me heaps, taken the pressure of working.
maybe there are other organisations e.g…rotary that will or do offer such services.
take care
