For decades I have had chronic insomnia. Takes me like 6 hours to get to sleep.
A guest in downstairs guest house complained about me walking into my livingroom. They complained about my footsteps!
So now landlord asks I don’t walk at night. Been stuck I the bedroom unable to sleep for 5 hours. Only have a tiny phone to look at. My eyes are painful with the strain.
Think I am gonna phone citizens advice tomorrow and get guidance. I dont think what my landlord has done is the right protocol.
My dad had that problem with a downstairs neighbor. He wore house shoes at night (soft soled) to help with the problem. That neighbor even complained about hearing Dad’s cat play at night! It was nuts. I’m sorry you’re going through this.
Dealing with initial insomnia, which is difficulty falling asleep at the beginning of the night, can be challenging. Here are some strategies that might help:
We have this problem, only we are the downstairs neighbors being annoyed by the upstairs neighbors squeaky floor.
We don’t complain to them or the landlord though because they can’t help the squeaky floor and it’s not like they’re stomping. It’s the floor. Walking is basic living activity. You should be able to walk around your apartment whenever you want. That said I live in the US and in my state walking around doesn’t constitute as noise violation.
Definitely worth looking into for where you live. It’s not fair that you’re confined to your bed. I could only see it being a problem if you pace for long periods of time.
