My new neighbor

I’m frequently awake 11pm to 7am. When I sit in my recliner in my living room and talk on the phone, my new neighbor knocks on the wall. It’s like I can’t watch TV, talk on the phone, or use the phone without bothering her. So I’m staying in my bedroom most of the time now.

What do you think about this?

Probably the price you have to pay when living in an apartment building. I can see it from both sides.

Thanks @Bowens. Maybe with some luck I won’t have to be up all night.

You pay rent to have the right to watch TV and talk on the phone whenever you want to.

Don’t cower in your room and walk on eggshells. Ignore the knocking on the wall, or report it to the Landlord if it continues.

Are there any rules in your apartment complex? I know some require to be silent during the nighttime. But if there are no rules…

Well, it’s 8:50am in the morning. I’m trying to talk to my friend on the phone, and the woman next door is knocking on the wall. Geesh.

I would keep talking, knock on her door and tell her to stop bothering you.

What will they say - you are not allowed to use the phone?

Thanks @Kxev. I lived here longer than she has, but I’ve only been here six months. I just don’t want her complaining to the landlord about me.

I don’t know - maybe complain to the landlord about her knocking on your wall. While you are trying to have an ordinary phone conversation.

Thanks. Maybe I should.

You are doing a normal activity in your home - you are not throwing a party.

It’s the buildings problem that the walls are thin.

She’s knocking on your wall disrupting your life.

Also what about calls to your doctor and case worker.

Sorry to keep going on. This triggered me for some reason.

That’s okay @Kxev. If it’s 2am in the morning I can understand, but nearly 9am in the morning is too much. I don’t think she knows anyone on my psychiatric care team or that I have a mental illness.

Right, and its not her business to know. But you pay rent and i was reading other comments that sounded reasonable and offered advice not so angry as mine. Hope you do talk to the landlord to put the complaint in first. Or find out the guidelines and ask what they think is appropriate for you to do.

I’m going to have to review the building rules they gave me when I moved in and see if there are quiet hours. I’ll start documenting this knocking on the wall business.

Well, she’s got me on the rules. The rules say “No noise, music, or other sounds shall be permitted at any time in such a manner as to disturb or annoy other residents…”

but making a phone call is not really that disturbing i would think…

Well if my new friend comes here, and we decide to share an apartment, I’m going to move. He can’t live here because he’s younger than 62. I live in a senior citizens apartment building now.
