Getting back into work

Im considering staying at my Mums and trying to get a job in the city as a dishwasher. The only thing is every other time i’ve tried to work, the voices have come back full blown and i havnt been able to concerntrate. Last time i worked as a kitchen hand/ dishwasher i almost attacked someone without a conscious descision to…

I dont know what to do… should i try working?

All i know is that i dont want to waste my life…

And i want more money so i can travel a little

Stress can cause symptoms to worsen.

Maybe it would be better to work alone, like being a janitor or data entry clerk. Perhaps a remote position would be good too.

A cleaner would be good i guess. For most cleaner jobs you need experience and a drivers liscense though. I dont think that Im good enough at customer service to be a data entry clerk and you usually need experience for that too. I worked as a customer service agent in Australia/ Data entry. But i left the job without giving notice, so i cant put it on my cv

I don’t know where you live, but being a janitor in a building does not require a driver’s license. A lot of places will take people without experience, either to clean offices, residential or a school - at least in the US.

Have you tried recruitment agencies? they can scout jobs for you

IDK, do you honestly think things will be different this time? That maybe the voices won’t come back full blown? Is there any strategy you can use to prevent the voices from coming back or ignore them if they come back or otherwise manage them so you can work? I don’t hear voices but I know that when I’m busy working I concentrate more on the work I’m doing and less on my symptoms.

Neither is necessarily true. There are places that are willing to train a person with no experience.
And you can walk, take a bus or maybe get a ride with a co worker.

There are two jobs i can apply for that are in buildings and dont require experience. Most cleaner jobs here require your own transport and experience

I tried in the past and found a job in a factory but i left a shift early and they ignored my calls after that. I might try the government benefit job bank

They probably wont be different. I could try and get a factory job again. Last time i had a factory job it actually went well. But i walked out anyway.

I’ve walked out on a couple jobs. It didn’t stop me from getting other jobs that I was more successful at. I’ve been fired from at least 10 jobs. But I worked at a couple jobs for four years and a couple for three years and my current janitor job for 13 years. Which incidentally, they hired me and I had no experience.

Wow, 13 years is an impressive achievement. The longest ive ever worked is 8 months and that was before i had sz

Oh no actually the longest ive worked fulltime is a year. I found an orchard fruit packing job. But id have to stay in a backpackers which might throw me over the edge mental health wise

Maybe you can find a low stress cleaner job like mine. I work in a large office building. I go into work and punch in at 10:00 and then ask the boss what he wants me to do. He tells me to empty trash or clean the restrooms or vacuum etc. and then I go off to do it by myself and I work alone for the rest of the day while some office workers occasionally walk by and say hi. I work three days a week, four hours a day and I make $20 an hour. It’s an ideal job with paid vacation, paid sick leave and paid holidays.

That sounds really good. I checked our main not advanced job site and the government easy get job bank. There are only 2 cleaning jobs in the wellington region that are entry level and dont require a drivers lisence. One of them was posted 27 days ago, so is probably gone. I think if my mum agrees to me staying at her house and looking for a job, i’d probably have to go for a kitchen hand job

Yeh maybe kitchen porter? At least where I live,

That often does not require previous related experience.

Just a hard worker who is reliable

I’ve done dishwashing before; it’s not bad. You have to work fast sometimes; for instance during breakfast, lunch and dinner rushes, but it slows down between meals. You have to be quick but you’re not working at breakneck speed. Plus, when you work at restaurants you usually get free or cheap meals. And many restaurants train.

Yeah… i dont mind kitchen hand work. My only issue is that last time the voices got so bad that i nearly attacked someone without consciously choosing to. It was like automatic reflex. Felt a wave of rage decided to ignore it. Next thing i know, i was putting my hands up and just about to push a girl over…
