Geodon - your experiences

@anon84763962 I was on geodon 80 mg and I really liked it. Then I started hallucinating all day and I was put on invega which helped. I’m on 6mg invega.

So from my experience going on geodon could result in massive hallucinations vs invega.

But it’s a great drug and made me a better person

Yes I remember going back to my GP quick smart, it was at the start of my last and most severe bout of psychosis.

He took me off the med and put me on something else but I can’t remember what. I ended up not taking it and just going up to Queensland to stay with my mother. She took me to her GP who referred me to a psychologist, who referred me to a psychiatrist. And the rest is sort of history. Well, that’s when I was put on invega and a litany of other AP’s.

I’m a bit disappointed that I have to wait until next year. I though it would have been good to come down off invega while I’ve got time off work. I could always call the triage line instead of my pdoc because his clinic is closed. But ah well. I’m not the doctor.

How’s invega for you? They wanted to put me on it if ability didn’t work.

I’m on 160mg of geodon. It makes me a little tired but I can function on it. It doesn’t stop me from seeing and believing things others don’t though.

Invega is really good. Abilify was too agitating for me. Invega is mellow. It’s not too sedating. It took about eight months to really work well but it does really work very well.

Look into it. You could use it as an add on to abilify. I’ve been on both at the same time.

They are the same class of drug, this means they function through the same mechanism. However they bind to different receptors and the chemical build is not exactly the same. (And they also have different absorption types due to this)

Yes the short half life is why it is often split into day and night. However my current pdoc said it’s not worth it and he would only prescribe it at night bc the sedation. So it depends on your doctor and what you find works best for you. If I were you I would start taking it all at night, then if you notice it’s not working well enough split it up.

My son (10yrsold) was put on Geodon 20mg twice a day (also Prozac 10mg once a day) after they did the Gene testing and it showed it would be a better match for his body. He was diagnosed with MDD with phycotic features and GAD. I have read about making sure you eat well with it and I try to make sure he dose for breakfast and dinner and try to have plenty of protein in the morning for him if possible. The thing is it seems almost no matter what a few hours after taking it he can’t stay awake and passes out pretty hard and sleeps for at least a couple hours and then is kinda sluggish till almost time to take the night dose. Then at night he sometimes has trouble sleeping because he will wake up early and usually can’t fall back asleep. It’s almost like it has switched his sleep cycle on him. He will be returning to school after the holidays and I am hoping we can find a solution to help him stay awake and not end up passing out at school. Any tips info from anyone who has had to deal with this med would me much appreciated.

I was on Goedon for two and a half years. For me it wasn’t a good med. This may not be the case for you. I had bouts of severe akathesia from it and narcoleptic episodes. I was prescribed eighty milligram s three of them but only took two. For some reason I knew three was too much and later found out it was. When my symptoms got out of control and I began having severe psychosis and panic attacks constantly a year or two after i started taking it, I tried taking three a day. I started showing signs of tardive diskenisia so immediately stopped the extra pill. I lost a lot of weight but only when I dieted and worked out a lot. This is just me, it may work great for youn

How do I join the family group? New to all of this.

You just have to click on that link and register again (click the blue “sign up” button). You can use the same username, etc. There’s many other people there who post about caring for their loved ones, and I think you could get some very good advice there. It seems to be functioning well and it’s pretty active.

Ok. Thank you for all the info.
