Forum advice

I’ve been feeling increasingly irritable for a little while now.
My sleep has been affected, waking up at early hours like 3am
I will sometimes dump my anger at my father.
I contacted my doctor and he told me to increase my Risperdal dose from 2mg to 3mg immediately
I am reluctant to go up on the dose because of the unwanted side effects I experience, like extra sedation and getting the zombie effect.

What do you think i should do?
Ride things out on 2mg with taking the occasional Klonopin to squash out the irritability or listen to my doctor and raise my Risperdal dose to 3mg?

If its been recommended, raise your meds. Im adjusting mine myself, all the time - depending on how i am.

Life has its ups and downs. But being aware - of how this makes us feel, is important. Your doing the right, responsible thing.

Not medical advice but maybe switch 2mg to before bed to get better sleep and reduce irritability. Officially you should do what dr says.

You seem to be yo-yo-ing between 2mg and 3mg.

I’d increase it to 3mg as that’s what your doctor recommends.

Have you ever asked your doctor about trying 2.5mg?

Do you think this could be environmental?

I would follow the doctor’s order and increase it to 3 mg. You can always reduce to 2 mg in the near future.

@everhopeful 's suggestion of 2.5 sounds like something you may want to talk to your doctor about.

Try to do things that help you relax and lower stress. Feel better soon.

Well I followed my thought the other day that if I am going to be in on taking these damn pills then may as well be all in

I’ve tried 2.5mg before without much improvement

I think you should take 3 mgs like your doctor said. You can always go back down to 2 mgs like Catman said.

I think it depends.

If you don’t consider the irritability a pre-relapse symptom, you could try to be on 2mg, and try to deal with the irritability.

Work on the underlying causes like stress and sleep deprivation.

Try to use other meds to to alleviate the irritability too, like the klonopin.

But if you feel that the situation escalates, it’s best to go up on the dose. Don’t lose insight.

Thank you Everyone

I think that I’m going to finally cave in and go up on the dose to 3mg.

The irritability is constant now

I’m constantly arguing with my father over trivial things.

Tonight I’ll start going up.

Like others said, I can always go down later

Yes I decided to listen to my doctor @SkinnyMe
Started going up on my Risperdal dose last night and already I’m feeling less manic.
Thanks

I’m doing rather well now on 21/2 mg of risperidone
Think I’ll stay at this dose for a while
My doctor is ok with it

2.5mg of risperidone is no longer doing the trick in managing my hypomania.
I’ve been experiencing irritability pretty much on and off all day today but there’s a big part of me that feels energized and in a good mood too.
Could be mixed episodes.
The thing is I really don’t want to increase my dose to 3mg.
I’ll continue to monitor my moods and take it from there.
@everhopeful what do you think?

Lithium might help. I take it.

I was on lithium for about a decade years ago.
It didn’t help my rapid cycling and it messed my thyroid up and gave me diabetes

Oh. That’s not good. I just find it calms me down.
