For those who are not staying on antipsychotic for life,

I was on risperidone 3mg for a year. I’ve been off them for 1 month now and don’t have as much symptoms as i used to. The withdrawals are the worst part of it though. I’m slowly returning to normal, just feel some derealization but i’ve always had derealization.

Personally i think i stayed on them way too long, fried my brain a little. I’m banking on neuroplasticity, been taking double fish pill dosage and a slew of other vitamins to see if they help. Havent had much psychosis, just tired and headachey all the time. Almost no delusions, some hallucinations but theyre managable.

@anon21561657, Be careful. After about three months or so off of AP’s, the psychosis can come back full swing.

I can only wish…

It didn’t work like that for me, I just stayed on AP as long as the pdoc saw appropriate (around 7 years), now I’ve been off them for 5 months, so far so good.

You sound like you are quite trusting with this medicine. That the naturopath gives. I personally would be too hesitant to try that but good luck thou sounds exciting that you are coming off soon. Was it the pdoc that recommended to come off after ur second year.

Did your pdoc recommend u to stay on it for one year?
I was on it for one year first time round too. Then like six months further of dose weaning off.

No I’m going to tell the pdoc that I will be coming off weather she like it or not I want to feel what it’s like to be alive lol

Well at least u are telling them that’s good and two years is how long I happen to be on them. At least.
Hope the times goes kind of fast.

I had some delusions in middle school now looking back on it, but I just thought I was being emotional teen stuff. Anywho I’m on it for life.

I don’t really have any major side effects past the initial weight gain besides what I think full onset of schizophrenia caused so I don’t mind…if I can afford it.

I hate having to be on disability, but I just don’t know if I can manage a job that I can make enough income on to afford the regimen with my skill set and also not drive myself insane.

I’m gonna try ticket to work soon enough, once I get my weight in check and see if I can’t earn a little extra cash or something, maybe get a car.

@Ryanana can you drive?

I never got into driving, but I’ve practiced. I just didn’t force my family to drive with me to get the hours in.

The only real problem I had was noticing signs, and staying focused on the road, and my speed. Consistency doing it all at the same time. I think its just a matter of practice.

I’ve got my permit.

That’s the problems I run into too. Only tried driving once and it was an awful experience. Now that things progressed the stuff drivers have to be aware of don’t click for me. I wish I can drive though. Just can’t notice the signs like you or tell which way to go at an intersection, where to keep driving and where you cant, etc. I’ve studied the book but I just get too confused

I’m too scared to drive and it’s all just a bit much learning all of those things.

@Ryanana
I’m glad you don’t experience major side effects besides initial weight gain that must be good incentive to remain on them longer.

I was told 5. Been on it 9. Might stay on it a year more then think about coming off.
