For Staff Consideration:

A new category called “Debates” dedicated to political issues, controversial discussion topics, etc.

This is a recovery-oriented forum, and I would argue that having a safe environment in which we can discuss these things with others who are aware of each others’ particular sensitivities would be beneficial for recovery. “Real life training,” kind of like riding a bicycle with training wheels. Would be especially beneficial for those of us who plan to totally “reintegrate” ourselves with society, so to speak.

And perhaps posts from this category wouldn’t appear in the main posts feed, only within the new category itself. That way it’s trigger safe.

If some of us clicked the post suddenly, then not good about the post. How to deal with this situation?

Post would only be visible within that category. You’d have to intentionally select it from the drop-down menu to see any of the content.

This would be a terrible idea if they showed in the Latest feed imo.

Politics can rarely trigger a schizophrenic

And should be a “general” category for voice

What does a debate on politics have to do with Sz, I’m playing devils advocate.

I wish there was a topic on mental health law, commitment, guardians, etc.

I haven’t been diagnosed yet, but politics was incredibly triggering for me. I thought the election somehow revolved around me and my thought broadcasting. Was terrifying but it’s been better lately.

@NiceHat We’re people with valid political opinions too, ain’t we? :b

A stickied post on Mental Health Law would be an AWESOME addition to this site. Way too many people get taken advantage of.

Then why are you suggesting it?

Because I thought it could be therapeutic for me, and maybe others. Sort of like exposure therapy. That was the initial inspiration for the idea anyways.

For instance I check headlines to find out what they’re saying about me

Or reference to my life.
But news isn’t forbidden on here.

Every political/religious post on here quickly devolves into hurling insults at each other. I think a debate category would be a moderation nightmare.

@NiceHat I agree. Advocacy . human rights. Landlord housing issues. Employment laws re disability. Etc could fit this catagory

I’ve never seen a single insult hurled at anyone on this forum. Heated debate =/= throwing insults around.

Many at me. Not a good role model. The worst person on the boards.

Etc.

You don’t see them because they are quickly deleted by the mods. I have seen plenty that are only there for about ten minutes.

By the way the most criticism and demeaning comments against me come from the mods

@Ninjastar Ahh, that makes sense.

@Daze There are people on this board who I dislike far more than you, that’s for sure. You’re definitely not the worst member here.

I attempted suicide this year because of them

“Don’t let the bastards get you down.” That’s only to say, chin up. As difficult as it is sometimes.

They could also make sexual issues its own category so that group could go off on that tangent there without clouding up the other threads.

Right, and the Mod Team really doesn’t have the bandwidth to moderate potentially controversial threads. There are plenty of other forums where folks can go to discuss things like politics, etc.
