For language lovers

Which language do you enjoy? I like Māori cos it uses reduplication (it repeats itself). Example Puka Puka means book :closed_book:. I think nati nati means trail mix.

I can understand written Portuguese cos it is like Spanish. Some Italian

I’m not a language lover bc I’m not talented at it , but I’m planning to start Arabic and Bangla this summer

Very nice :+1:. Standard Arabic or a dialect?

Standard, because it’d probably prove more useful to be able to read newspapers and books and things :smirk_cat:

I know my native language really well, English I would say my level is C1, and I know a bit Russian language. Better at understanding than speaking

I like Spanish (seems useful) and German. German seems harder, but I’m more interested in it…

There are a lot of jobs or careers here that require bilingualism. There not just entry level jobs, but a lot of folks speak Spanish in California/USA.

I have a German dictionary at home. I only tried Doulingo and 1 other app. I haven’t learned crap.

I took 2 years of Spanish in HS and skated by. I took 1 semester of Spanish in community college and got an A. I liked it.

I’m terrible at languages especially now.

I like the dead languages. If I wasn’t sick, I would have tried being a doctor or a lawyer or something. A lot of Latin prefixes and Latin origins of medical words I heard.

My grandma learned Latin at her catholic high school. I don’t think she knows anything anymore. She’s 80 years old now.

All languages are cool/fun imo. Some are harder than others. Some are useful for business, pleasure, and travel.

They say French is the language of love and romance. Italian seemed okay/nice interesting. I’m part Italian.

I only know English, but i do know a bunch of phrases and how to count to ten and simple stuff like that in German. I think it is the craziest sounding language to me haha. But i feel its definitely not one of the hardest to learn. Similar to English.
My gf is using that duolingo app to learn German for the past few weeks. She’s getting good.
And yeah the Maori languages seem pretty cool. Ive been to New Zealand when i was younger for snowboarding mostly.

I thought Spanish is easy or I was told. It gets rough when you get higher up. They expect you to speak only in Spanish in class and write papers in Spanish. I suck at listening and speaking but did okay for a while. It’s been years for me.

The only language I’m good at other than English is Spanish. I still enjoy other languages though. Russian and German are hard for me. Still like them.

I’m not familiar with these levels. I mean I know that there are levels of fluency I just don’t know. Like does it start with A1 ie being the lowest level?

I looked that up. C1 is pretty darn good.

I am a language lover! Or I used to be.

I also know Spanish. I used to be fluent anyway. Nowadays, just bits remain.

In university I was studying languages. But sz changed my life course. I wanted to teach.

Very subjective. I like English the most. North american.

I find SE Asian languages sounds pleasant due to speaking Vietnamese but I prefer Thai and Khmer sounds.

I prefer Mexican accent over other Spanish speaking accents.
