My psychiatrist suggested is as an antipsychotic switch as an alternative to haloperidol. It is a very old antipsychotic. It shouldn’t increase prolactin.
Who is on it and who has info about it? It would be appreciated.
You can do a search on the forum also. There are some older threads talking about this AP.
I have taken it via depot for the last ten years and love it.
For future people:
This are the top 3 search results today (29/8/2022):
The information is very scattered.
Yeah ive been on fluanxol injections for a year off it now. It felt the same as all other antipsychotics. It got rid of my psychosis but caused side effects like cognitive problems, emotionally numb, no energy. I slept a lot on it. Like 10 hours a day and i would also take a nap in the day.
I’m not of fluanxol(Depixol) but on the other branch Clopixol. I’ve been on that meds for 27 years in injections and I’m doing better than ever and has only got minor side effects. Fluanxol is said to work as well as Risperdone. Besides of that it has a lot fewer side effects than Haldol and is a lot gentler to the libido than Risperdone.
I’m on 4mg haloperidol in divided doses . I love it, it helps for aggression
I got up to 12mg a day pills
It made me sleep most of the time
Just made me feel very drained
Blunted me a lot as well
I just took my 1st shot of Flupentixol today.
It’s only been some 6 hours since my shot but already I can report probably I prefer it to Aripiprazole (and definitely to Paliperidone which was horrible).
It seems to have some antidepressant effect, it’s good
I took my 2nd shot and it helps me sleep well but it does blunt my emotions and make me feel flat. I’m going to discontinue as I feel I shouldn’t be on any antipsychotic
Just need to make a compromise and decide what you can put up with
It made me stiff and shaky but it totally obliterated my psychosis.
So I took my 3rd shot a couple of days ago, 40mg which should last 1 month. I was being threatened with re-hospitalisation so had to get it.
It seems fine though, it’s a low dose, I hope they keep me on this low dose (40mg monthly), they should do as I am behaving well on it.
I think 1 reason I find it so favourable compared to Abilify and Paliperidone is the low dose. I was on a monstrous 300mg Abilify before (which unbelievably is the lowest dose available) and 100mg Paliperidone many months ago which is way too much
