Flashes of light

Does anyone experience flashes of light as a symptom?

It usually happens right as I’m falling asleep. It wakes me. The other night it happened with my eyes half opened, which is how I realized that it wasn’t really a flash of light, it was a symptom.

Anyone? Bueler?

I’ve seen flashes of light. They were flying by me as spirits. A voice told me to stay out of the light because they are in the light.

When i was taking no meds i experienced flashes of light. I thought the government put cameras in my home and i thought they were taking pics of me. Also thought they were turning my lap off and on to wake me up, so when i get up they will snipe me in the head.

Most brief flashes of light have a non hallucinogenic explanation…it is just a subtle miscommunication between eye and brain. You can also get it with fluctuating vision. I can tell the difference between these which are rare and spirits or energies…those actually move around and can appear as bright stars but right around you…

Here are some medical explanations…but I know there is more than what they say here…just dont have time to look it up

All of your answers were very helpful. Thank you!

I’ve seen flashes of light here or there mostly white. On occasion I’ve seen black and shades of green. They’re just flashes, like someone shooting off a camera with a flash in your face and you see those little specks of light. I thought it was just me or that I was loosing my eye site. But I see clearly and perfectly fine. In fact I’m about 20/20 with my vision which is a bit odd because both parents wear glasses in my family, and so does my older brother. I guess that’s what made the thoughts of loosing vision come from. I don’t know. I don’t try and rationalize delusions.

I have flashes of light, i went to eye doctor, they checked if i have a tear on my retina, test came out normal, even my eye doctor says that she also have it sometimes, i don’t think thats a mental symptom, it has something to do with the eye but if it happens often its always good to have eyes check out.

Sometimes I get the flashes of light, but it’s rate and I figure it could be anything. For instance, even astronauts get these flashes while in space because of radiation hitting their eye fluid. I also get the black and white ‘zig zag pattern’ while almost asleep and jolted awake by something.

What really sucked was when I would see little red flashes for a second or 2 on my wall. Looked a lot like the red dot from a rifle scope…

Yes. My SZ son gets blue flashes when the voices are strong (or certain voices) and he has to hide his eyes and with is hands as the light is so bright. Unfortunately this is being misinterpreted as epilepsy right now…I am so grateful to learn others here have this as a symptom. And i am very sorry you have to deal with it.

I do see flashes and a pulsating sensation when I’m getting really tired and should go to bed. If I’m really tired, I will see the pulses of light even when my eyes are closed.

I see bubbles of light floating around at night…not little lightning bugs but huge orbs of light…its quite fascinating to see…but its a symptom of mine. My medicine makes it go away.

My cameras see them too…

Yep. My son gets them too. Not with a headache and not like a migraine (which i get and I don’t have SZ…for me it was like little aluminium foil zigzag shapes - migraine aura).

My son’s lights go with the voices and he says “as if a nasty smell and dark cloud entered my head and the lights are flashing warnings”.
