My health plan offered me a $200 grocery gift card if I had a Medicare Annual Wellness Visit done before the end of last year. At the visit I was checked out by my PCP and my weight, blood pressure etc were checked out. I had the visit in November of 2023. I called my health plan in December to check on the status of my card and was told that my PCP had billed it incorrectly and sent the wrong codes so my health plan couldn’t issue me the $200 until my doctor submitted the right codes.
I Pm’d my doctor and she claimed she billed it correctly. Obviously either my health plan or my doctor made a huge mistake. Well, after a couple dozen phone calls and many PM’s to my doctor she finally submitted the right codes. I called my health plan or sent my PCP messages at least every two weeks and got nowhere for the past six months.
I went through many departments and talked to managers and filed grievances; it’s been an ongoing hassle for the past six months. My doctor wasn’t vey helpful, all she had to was call my health plan to straighten this out but she told me she doesn’t call insurance companies. Finally I sent her a PM a few weeks ago, In it I said, “It’s been 5 months, can you just please resubmit the claim correctly or at least just be honest and say you don’t give a damn about helping me and don’t care.”
Well, I got a call from some manager shortly after this and she said the doctor resubmitted the claim and I called my health plan and they said she submitted the claim for the Wellness Visit correctly and I’ll get my $200 gift card within three months. Whew, finally! Maybe if I had just cussed out the doctor 6 months ago she would have taken care of this problem right away.
