It’s quite shocking that these things quickly became so widely available with very little research into their effects. It’s all coming out now… They certainly aren’t as innocent as the manufacturers claim.
The last I saw was a meta-analysis that said they are 99 % safer than regular cigarettes.
There’s a lot of conflicting research. I won’t dispute that they are much safer than tobacco, but there have been significant health issues found particularly with the flavoured liquids, some harmful chemicals have been found in them. The other issue is that people tend to over use them - When you smoke a cigarette, you know when it’s finished, but with an ecig, some people will puff on them constantly. Hopefully over time the public will be better informed of the risks and benefits, they are still relatively new.
I love my nicotine i don’t know if i could give up my vape even if it means cancer
We only have about 13 years of data for ecigs, so it’s true that the jury is still out. However, when you have multi-billion-dollar cigarette companies such as Phillip Morris and R.J. Reynolds buying scientific influence, ecig perception will change. Actually, now that the FDA regulates ecigs you’re going to see Morris and Reynolds taking over the ecig market.
Cigarettes contain over 4,000 chemicals, including 43 known cancer-causing compounds. A cigarette contains nicotine, tar, carbon monoxide, formaldehyde, ammonia, hydrogen cyanide, arsenic, and DDT.
The only things I see that’s bad in ecigs is nicotine (which you can eliminate) and formaldehyde. The NEJM did a study that found that ejuice heated at > 5V produces enough formaldehyde to possibly cause cancer (I can’t find the study). That’s it.
Criticism of the study.
my dad worked at 2 tobacco companies, they used to have tables full of free cigarettes for employees. he started smoking 100s because he said they all smoked 100s. so I started smoking 100s because I saw they have a bigger filter. I figure they knew something.
