I been ill with schizophrenia for 5 years and all of those 5 years I have been taking risperidone. I lately been feeling very tired and weak. The doctor prescribed me Wellbutrin but at the beginning it was giving me energy and now I feel like it is not working. What can I do to feel more energetic? Should I change Antipsychotic or try another anti-depressant? am I always going to be tired from now on ?
Welcome back!!! I don’t know. Can you ask your drs that?
Exercise can help with feeling more energetic. I would ask your doctor the questions about medication.
Antipsychotics do that, people say to me just force yourself to do something, me I don’t like that advice but it’s like they say, where the body goes the mind follows
Wellbutrin worked better for me when the dose was adjusted up.
As far as having enough energy the three main things to consider not counting meds is healthy diet, exercise and getting enough sleep. These are things within our control mostly and learning about them is a valuable investment of time in yourself. I find if I eat too many carbs or sugar I get lazy. Pasta, bread, red meat, sugar, fat and caffeine can all be part of being low energy. Try to prioritize sleep at night and getting some form of exercise at least 30 minutes a day. That should all be able to restore your energy.
Ask your doctor to taper down your risperidone to a lower dosage. I was on a med almost identical to it and I had the same problem.
