“Answering that question has become one of many focuses of the FDA’s Multipotent Stromal Cell Consortium, a large team of scientists studying adult multipotent stromal cells. These are stem cells that can differentiate into a variety of cell types and could contribute to tissue repair or help replace, restore or regenerate other parts of the body.”
Lets get this stem cells party for sz started. Its almost like this avenue is barely being explored.
I wonder what happened to this:
Thank you for posting this. Do you or any one else have tried to contact any one of these researchers:
It would be interesting to know if according to the research team remission was due to a modification in immune cells or neurogenesis via stem cells.
I haven’t contacted anybody, but I did read that they have put out a call for others who have sz and a BMT so they can study their cases.
I read studies related to schizophrenia all the time and they seem so reductionistic. Occasionally I come across some big picture information like stem cell therapy, bone marrow transplants, immunotherapy, crisper etc… These appear so promising, but there does not seem to be any active studies going on that one can join.
Bone marrow transplant science is very advanced and practiced daily for certain diseases. Where are the trials for schizophrenic patients? What are they waiting for? Treatment resistant schizophrenia is just as debilitating as thalassemia and sickle cell and they offer BMT to those patients regularly. Feeling very frustrated today.
Someone please sign me up as a volunteer transplant patient
