Expensive Illness

The SZ has been very expensive! I have spent literally millions of dollars on this illness with part of the money going to hospitalization for 13 years and a lot more going to drugs and psychiatry. I now spend 350 dollars a month on a psychiatric nurse and 150 dollars every week on a therapist. Plus medication! It’s all covered by insurance which costs me $687.40 a month.

That’s a lot of money!

My pdoc is free and I pay 30€ a month on meds. Most is payed through taxes though.

My mandatory health insurance is 25€ per quarter.

Luckily for me my med and pdoc visits I get free in the public health system. But I would say there is an opportunity cost from lost earnings and not being able to work, for me.

Treatment didn’t cost me a penny and I get a generous income and my rent paid by the British government.
