Excellence is overrated. Let’s embrace being good enough instead

There are plenty of brokers out there who would like to steal our customers, but they’re going to have a hard time. That’s because we really DO provide excellent service. Maybe they might save a few bucks elsewhere, but time is also money and a lot of other brokerages can’t meet needs as fast as we do because of the quality of our team.

Also, I’m having surgery this year. I want my surgeon to be excellent, not “good enough”, thank you.

There are times when you have to be excellent and times to dial it back.

I wouldn’t disagree that excellence is preferable in certain situations. The thing is knowing when. Both ‘good enough’ and ‘excellent’ are hard terms to define re providing a yardstick for them .

Bullsh!t.

How did civilization get here? By quitting? By saying everything is fine? We are all fed? We are all at peace? We are all healthy? We know everything?

Excellence simply means the quality of being very, very good in some attribute or at some pursuit (from the Latin verb excellere–to surpass or excel). Who wouldn’t want that? …especially if you didn’t have to work at it really hard.

yah just getting by i’m for that. better than not. what society didn’t get by, failed ones and the ones that really take off.

Plodding along through life. But I stay breathing. And my life isn’t total chaos. I’m thinking that is good enough.

When I was working I worked with excellence and then the really serious psychosis hit and I can’t work at all anymore or make strides for excellence. If everyone is to school and fed that’s pretty darn excellent

Well i’ve always been someone who strives for excellence. In my studies and in my job, i’m always striving to improve and do better. It is almost a compulsion. Now and then i will dial it back, only so i don’t over exert myself…that would lead to exhaustion and a likely breakdown. I used to be so hard on myself that if i scored anything other than an A, i would treat it like i failed. Striving for excellence can have its drawbacks, but then many great experiments and products have been made because someone strived for excellence.

I wonder how many actual strive for excellence , or if it’s a level some can naturally achieve due to a good mix of environmental and genetic factors.

We should be excellently empathetic to people not capable of certain things , but I still think we should strive for excellence, and greatness, and innovation and creativity while challenging ourselves.

Part of being excellent is to be empathetic. If you can’t understand some people are more capable than others when you endeavor to your excellence, then maybe you are not being totally excellent, just being an excellent a-hole :unamused:.
