Well, it has been interesting. I have become eight years older. I typically in my real life do not use English, but this forum has helped me to maintain my English abilities. I have not really spoken any English in over 19 years. People here speak Finnish. Some speak Russian too. Recently I purchased a set of Russian study books at the flea market. These are the ones I used in the early 1980s. Now I am having some coffee, yep I may drink too much coffee but there is a Finnish saying ‘kylmä kahvi kaunistaa’ meaning cold coffee makes you more beautiful.
I, too, am currently drinking cold coffee I made this morning. I’m not that long as you on the forum. You’re probably a veteran.
How many languages do you speak
I speak Finnish, English and Swedish, also some Russian. I studied Russian when I was in the university and then participated in a 3-week Russian language program in Leningrad, the USSR in March 1989. This was 6 months before I went to the USA. But when I stayed in the USA nearly 13 years, I forgot many Russian words. I have not had any need for Russian and many Russians also speak English.
Wow. I’ve always wanted to learn several languages but I only know 2. I’ve never been able to afford to take classes that weren’t directly related to my bachelors degree
When I was in Leningrad in March 1989 I met interesting people. Some were so informed that they knew that George Bush (senior) was to open the computer sales to the USSR which happened in June 1989. Some people wanted me to become involved in importing computers to the USSR and they even explained how to setup a business on the Finnish side to enable these imports to the USSR. But I was on my way to the USA and I could not become involved. We have to remember this was still the communist nation and one day I met some people at one hotel of Leningrad and they explained how there was a stock exchange in Saint Petersburg before the communist revolution. Those were interesting times.
