Effects of Resperidol on the Body

Hello again. I was wondering if anyone else has experienced an incredible amount of wanting sleep while being on resperidol. All I want to do is sleep lately, and I can’t seem to get enough of it. I sleep up to ten to twelve hours a day now and it’s really messing with my school. My doc told me to cut back down to 2 mgs to counteract it.

When I was on risperdol, I couldn’t stop eating. (I think that’s the same drug, I just learned to call it risperdol.) They say medicating us is an art because everyone’s reaction is different. I settled happily on ziprexa.

I had an overeating problem on Risperdal/risperidone instead of an oversleeping problem. I oversleep already due to depression and/or negatives.

I take 12mg risperidone and I sleep 12-14hours

I slept for about 12 hours a day

I slept a lot on risperidone, but I also got very nauseous. I threw up nearly every meal and still gained 40 lbs. it wasn’t the right drug for me. But it works great for other people.

Risperidone can and did Zonk me out!
I was very tired on 4mg so my pdoc lowered it down to 3mg and now I’m doing better.
Although I have a little more energy, I’m still spending a good amount of time on my couch.

@BlindedMind how are you today? Do you still have sleep problems? How did it get away and how long did it take?

On risperdal I was sleeping 10-12 hours every night and I had increased appetite and weight gain. I had been having trouble sleeping before I was on it though so I guess it’s a trade off

@anon82230070 did you take pills or injections?

Pills, pretty sure I was on 4mg/day

On Zyprexa I was sleeping 12 to 14 hours a day. After switching to Risperdal I started sleeping 6 to 8 hours. I also started losing weight. I got really fat on Zyprexa. I also came down with diabetes while on Zyprexa. The diabetes didn’t go away when I switched to Risperdal, but my blood sugar is lower.

Did it take a long time for you to feel normal again ?

Definitely, I’m not sure why. I was super fatigued for months after the episode, even for a month or two after I switched to ability

I guess that with the long acting injections it must take even longer :frowning:

It helps me sleep yes but I need more than just Risperdal to sleep. I have to take Geodon, Seroquel and Melatonin everyday too.
