EEG. Anyone have one? Findings? Got news

Results came back from my EEG. They were testing me to rule out temporal lobe epilepsy and seizures that I may not recognize. All good, no abnormal activity. But I wondered if anything typically comes up on an EEG if someone is in the schizophrenia Spectrum.

Had 2 done, one before Dx Sz, and obviously one after in the psych hospital.
Findings: 1st one said, abnormal that we knew,
2nd one said: tell you, that we can’t do…

So are you saying Sz showed up in the EEG. Wow that’s neat @Csummers

Like 1989 think I’m still picking that gunk out of my hair. Mine came back with no abnormalities note in my file was the doctor was surprised it did.

Yeah the gunk was awful. Well I’m glad I don’t have a seizure disorder. That’s good news. Was curious.

I’m getting a sleep study done next week so I guess I’ll share my results after that

Sz does not show up on EEGs, but seizure disorders are sometimes misdiagnosed as sz. An EEG can show if you have a seizure disorder.

The first one was done in 1994 while undergoing some severe depression, all I remember is the way the pdoc said about the results is that it was slightly abnormal. Can’t recall why they wanted to do it in the 1st place, but Sz was the furthest thing on my mind and that wasn’t suggested until late 1996.
As far as the 2nd one, just like my IQ test they ordered, they wouldn’t reveal anything about the results.
Pretty embarrassing.

Yeah I am on a wait list for one of those too. Yes please let me know how it goes. All the best!

That’s awful you should be allowed to have your own results!!!

I wondered if any psych illness would show up. Thanks. I don’t have a seizure disorder all normal results no abnormalities. They will figure it out how to treat my stuff. Not having a seizure disorder is a good thing. It was to be ruled out. Suspect diagnosed considerations are bp1 with psychosis and schizotypal but all I care about is treating these fn symptoms whatever they are from…

Pretty sure thats against the law.

As far as I know, no one can tell based on an EEG whether or not you’re schizophrenic. I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised if I had some kind of epilepsy though.

Is that the same thing as an EKG or is it something different? I get 1 to 2 EKGs a year to check my heart for taking Geodon.

Once they told me my heart wasn’t beating fast enough. I can figure out my own heartbeat with my thumb and a watch.

There’s a paper posted in the news section about QEEG which says in most cases they can “see” sz in the EEG, I can’t remember exactly how but it had to do with coherence between the brain regions and different types of brain waves. In this paper, they said they were largely able to normalize EEG and reduce symptoms as measured by the PANSS.

It’s not been replicated by rigorous study yet, but there are some other positive case studies.

I had an EEG done and they told me it was pretty normal but with some odd fluctuations. So they wanted me to do a 3 day long EEG instead to see if they could catch anything else but it’s too expensive!! So who knows.

Do you remember what these fluctuations were?

They didn’t say, I’m sure he’ll explain at my upcoming appointment

Let us know if you can. Years ago I had an EEG done that showed what they called a “normal variant” of short sharp spikes of activity in my left temporal lobe.
