ECT- benefits and drawbacks

Hi, I’m considering ECT to help with my negative symptoms and depression. Has anyone went through it and improved as a person? I know it deletes some of the memories, but I’ve had too many bad ones that is holding me back. I also have a question: does it delete memory of like things like passwords and friends names?

I wont recommend it at all. Just keep trying meds which might work for you.

The benefits of less depression didn’t last long and I feel like it hurt my memory. :raccoon::raccoon::raccoon:

ECT eases depression if depression is caused from bad thoughts, emotions etc. For example if you have suicidal thought, hopeless thoughts etc etc and these thoughts preventing you from doing day to day activities etc. On the other hand if you have lack of emotions, thoughts etc then ECT will be a disaster.

Either way its only done for severe cases and not recommended due to its lasting memory effects.

If your depression is due to negative thoughts as in the first case then you can try myo inositol. It can affect your short term memory as it makes you very difficult to hold on to negative intrusive thoughts and thus eases your depression and is far better than ECT and also do not require any prescription either as its sold as a dietary supplement.

I have seen ECT do a lot of good before. This guy was strapped to a bed when I first arrived at the hospital. He’d tried to commit suicide. When they let him up he was barely engaged with his surroundings and barely responsive to outside stimulus. They kept him strapped down for about three or four months, and then they gave him ECT. The improvement was dramatic. He turned into an outgoing, happy person. One thing though, he had aspirations to write that were misplaced. When I read some of the things he’d written they were barely coherent, if coherent at all. I’m wondering if the ECT did that to him. I have aspirations to write too, and because of that I am afraid to get this treatment.
