Eating vegetarian at fast food restaurants is no healthier than meat, experts claim

If you’ve ever watched a cookery show you will see the copious amounts of salt being used, be it vegetarian or carnivorous. The amount of butter they use is also incredble.

If you eat out at all it is what you should expect. I have to have a low salt diet, and genetically i am primed to respond well to it. I have to cook from scratch every meal due to the salt you find in processed foods. Now I over compensate with other spices to make up for it.

I don’t think health wise i can eat out again, unfortuantely.

I think it is the best too for sustainability, economy and ethics but it is not healthier than a diet with moderate consumption of meat.

Be discerning. If you’re a vegetarian, you’ll need to supplement to get enough of some of your nutrients such as B12 and iron. Even protein may be a challenge. Despite all the huckstering, the big studies* show no difference between vegetarians and omnivores in longevity or any category of disease when you control for the other stuff.

Vegetarianism is not without serious misinformation, just as there is from the folks who bring us mainstream processed food. You can avoid multiple deficiencies if and only if you know exactly what you’re doing. You can claim the moral high ground. Make the choice freely.

*A huge British study am j clin nutr in 2009 showed no measurable difference in any major health measure between vegs and omnivores; ped clin na 2009 showcased how easy it is to make your children sick on a vegetarian diet if you do not know exactly what you’re doing.

I think the moderation thing is keeping me a bit fat but I like eating :joy:

Don’t call yourself fat ever. That’s negative. You need to be your “healthiest “ you can. We all have issues

Did you know that in the U.S., McDonald’s french fries are coated with beef tallow to make them extra-crispy when they’re fried? I think that is disgusting!
