Driving delivery/taxi (uber, skip the dishes, etc)

Has anyone done this? How is it? I really need to make a few hundred extra a month. My ex brother in law drove uber and managed to keep his house because of it. Gotta be worth a try right?

I scheduled an orientation with one of the food delivery services for this evening. Sounds like they will give me all the stuff I need and make me do deliveries starting tonight…! Wish me luck.

My brother does uber for a couple hours before and after work. I guess it’s good money or he wouldn’t do it. He said it helped him pay off all of his credit card debt.

I considered doing it, but I can’t afford the gas or wear and tear on my car.

Its like uber eats or doordash. Not sure if there in the us. I think skip the dishes is possibly just in Alberta.

I do “Skip The Dishes” every now and then. It’s really simple. Dress nice, have a full tank, a smartphone with data and you’re set.

A 4 hour shift will get you roughly $70. If you’re lucky, you’ll get to drive through the rich neighbourhoods, they tip really generously

I’m going to drive for Uber. Do customers tip? Is it the rule or exception?

I always tip my uber driver

I’m going to offer a dollar beverage and dollar snack. That should make them tip more.

If you ever decide to do uber or Lyft make sure you invest a mileage tracker app. Like mile IQ like 6.00 a month. The stupidest thing you could ever do is not keep track of your mileage deductions. You shouldnt just guess the IRS could want proof and you will have it with a mileage tracker.

I’ve had driving jobs. Never again in this California traffic. I thought it would be fun, I was 17 and the company I got hired at solicited donations over the phone and my job was to drive all over the valley going to businesses and picking up the envelope with the donations inside. So I was going into electronic firms, bars, small businesses, clinics, stores etc, I could do around 25-30 envelopes a day on a normal shift. This was in the seventies before GPS systems and MapQuest.

All I had was a folded paper map to find these places. I would go into work and the lady boss would give me a list of names, the donation size, and the address and then it was up to me to figure out how to get to these places in the straightest, fastest most economical way.

Yeah, it wasn’t as fun as I thought it would be. The number one problem was getting lost. I would get way off track on a freeway or something because I missed a street. I would end up miles away from where I needed to be. The next hardest part was finding addresses. The addresses were not always prominently displayed and I would end up driving up and down a major crowded street half a dozen times looking for the number. And I worked right in rush hour traffic. Yeah, some people have a knack for driving jobs. Not me.

I almost became an OTR trucker. It sounds nice but I get tired driving just around town. Bleh!

I did my first shift yesterday with DoorDash. It was great. Driving delivery is just as fun as it used to be. They paid like $7 for driving like 5 minutes from the restaurant to the house. I remember working for a company and getting like $4 a delivery and having to manage like 2-4 deliveries at a time. This was very laid back and organized, love it.
