Last night an old drinking buddy came knocking on my door. He was drunk. I do like the guy, so I treated him like a friend. He knew I was firm in my intentions not to drink. (It’s been 17 months.) We talked, and then he left. Then today he came by my door again. I’m hoping we don’t get in a situation where I have to continually repel his urging to get me to drink. Drinking buddies are a big part of the impulse to drink.
oh I hope you are strong enough to keep from drinking @crimby you are doing so well !!
17 months is amazing keep it up. Peoples places and things !!!
Sorry about the situation. Talk care of yourself, I advise.
I had my last drink in Pennsylvania in January,1974. Then I graduated college and moved in with my parents in Connecticut. I was terribly lonely.
A year later a drinking buddy who adored me said he was driving to Boston to meet these two fantastic black chicks and he would pick me up at my parents house in Connecticut for a weekend in Boston.
I said I didn’t want to go (because I was afraid I would drink). I’m still sober greater than 40 years later. But I regret losing the friendship.
Sometimes the motive to go see a sober person and try to get him to drink is anger, hostility, rage, or some combination of that. Do you want to roll around in a messy bog of this guy’s piss?
It is all Okay.

Say strong @crimby. Maybe ask him to stop coming over when he’s drinking.
@crimby . Mate. As a person with a drink problem themselves i would avoid him. He’ll have you picking up a drink in the end yourself. I know this because i am one fella. Leave a bit of distance between yourselfs if your trying to stay sober .
I am still in contact with my friends from my drinking days, though I have the strength to not relapse. Its been 30 months sober for me.
Where in Connecticut?
We sold the West Simsbury property a long time ago . . . I landed on the Cape.

Remain strong @crimby!
Cool. I’m in the Bridgeport area. Was living In Bridgeport but now in a sober house nearby. It’s the only sober house in the town so don’t wanna give away my exact location.
Just becareful. 232323232, you are doing well
Getting away from people, places and things that tempted me to use is a huge part of my recovery. Stay strong and remember how alcohol affected you and where it led you.
Courage, strength, and wisdom.
I’m 11 months sober congratulations on 17 months! Thats huge and inspirational
