Does anyone take Ritalin, Adderall, or any other stimulant?

I’ve been having a very hard time focusing, even having taken two different antipsychotics. I really struggle with school. I was wondering if I should try a stimulant. Does anyone have experience with this? If so, how do stimulants make you feel?

Thank you to any answers.

ask for wellbutrin. i personally can’t have it due to experiences

I have tried ritalin, but that made my psychosis worse. I stay away from stimulants.

You can try modafinil or bupropion

I think the official ruling is that stimulants are dangerous for people with psychosis because it affects our dopamine levels and makes our symptoms flare up.

Thank you guys for the advice! I didn’t realize that stimulants could have that effect. Thank you guys for letting me know! I’ll look into other solutions.

Definitely. I used to be a stimulant addict until I started Strattera (which is technically a stimulant but doesn’t seem to have the dangerous effect on mental health or addictive properties). It saved me for a few months because I was able to reap the therapeutic effects of stimulants without the dangerous high (Strattera is less psychoactive than coffee but has a powerful effect on focus and clarity of thought). Then my doctor took me off of it because he thought it caused a manic episode (which I disagree with; I think the manic episode was triggered by the antidepressant I was taking at the time).

Anyway, if you ever want to get off addictive stimulants, Strattera is the way to go.

I was sleeping like 14 hours a day. So I got on Provigil (Modafinil). I like it! When I get up from sleeping, I take 100 mgs. of Provigil.

I have been using Concert(54mg) for most of the time 10 years. With antipsychotics, it doesn’t worsen my psychotic symptoms but helps a bit with focus and motivation.

I struggled very much in school an tried all different kinds of stimulants… But they just made me really high and unable to eat so I stopped taking them. They did help me in school though.
