I really don’t like it.
my chest is burning and stinging, it gets me worried that it is something else
but even acid reflux on its own is not good, burning my air and food pipes in my body.

I started getting it in 1999. I figure it was my fault because I would drink cans of Pepsi before bedtime and if I would wake up in the night I would drink a can. And pretty soon I would wake up with a burning in my nose and throat. While I was sleeping the acid would back up and start to come out my nose.
I didn’t know what acid reflux was at the time and I kept up the drinking because I wasn’t sure it was the problem. I finally went to a doctor and he told me I had acid reflux. I read up on it a little. Being only human I did stupid things and when I was still waking up with the burning I was attending a day program and I would drink coffee there and it burned my stomach like crazy. So painful but I loved my coffee and drank it every day despite knowing what it would do to me.
The doctor finally prescribed an anti-acid called Tagamet. It worked. I took it for quite awhile and it eliminated all pain. And the good news is I went on a diet and lost weight and my acid reflux went away and I could drink coffee and soda again and feel fine (but just not before bedtime).
Now whenever I gain weight I get acid reflux and every time I lose weight it goes away. Now I’m on the heavy side and back to taking Omeprazole each morning. When I lose this weight I will not need it.
But yeah @Butterflyy, can’t you get a doctor to prescribe some Prevacid or Tagamet or something else that takes care of the acid reflux? It will eliminate the pain.
All that acid in your stomach and chest can cause cancer of the esophagus.
You are not alone as I got this illness ten years ago. I went to the doctors for treatments. But the medicine they prescribed for me had just temporary effects. Once you stopped taking meds, the symptoms came back quickly. Now I just avoid eating anything after supper and drink two glasses of water before bed. Those water washed away the acid attached to food pipes and I felt much better during my sleep.
I’ve had GERD for as long as I can remember. I use meds and use extra every few months when the vomiting gets bad.
Yes I get it. It’s very uncomfortable. Hope ya feel better soon. Have you tried gaviscon ? That might help. I usually take some of that when I get it.
Thanks guys,
but the thing is that I think I may be able to get rid of this by adjusting my diet so I am trying that out first today is only my third day on it so it may take a while longer to show affect. then I do not need to use those side effect causing meds at all that would be lovely.
@green5
Thnks I like ur idea of using water to wash it down that is smart thinking im gonna do that
that’s cool. nice one. yea I think I will lose weight on this diet too if all goes to plan
I used to get spells of it lasting several days. The Omeprazole I take has really reduced it .
I have acid reflux, everytime i lay down in bed at night. I get thru packets of Rennies (chalk) because of it. I was on nexium control (some omaprozale derivative) but at 12 quid for 7 days i stopped taking them.
It often makes me throw up (usually my 300mg quetiapine as well) and then it settles down. I start drinking milk an hour before bed now.
I really need to get to the GP for a script one day.
I take ranitidine for it twice a day on prescription
Wow
I didn’t realise so many people had acid reflux
This morning I have a bit of a cough but it will probably go away so I won’t call 111 unless it is persistent.
I’ve had acid reflux since I was diagnosed 8 year ago. I think the AP medication made my acid reflux worse. I’ve been on prescription omeprazole since then.
