I developed excessive stomach acid recently and had to change my diet significantly. The scary thing is that I was worried that my liver or kidneys were failing and that my meds would stop working and i would face eventual death with acute psychosis. As it turned out changing to a bland diet calmed the angry gut for now anyway and also taking a antacid when I was going to go out to eat has helped too. It was a scary situation as I lay in bed much of the time for weeks and my anxiety flared badly. It also is unfortunate that a bland diet will likely cause me to gain weight but at least i don’t feel the burn right now. I have discovered that some of my meds can increase the acid effect but have no idea what to do about it other than take antacids if just taking the meds causes it because I know I need them. I know that the antacid is another drug to occasionally take and it’s no fun adding on to the load. I take some minor comfort in that when I received a book about turning 30 it mentioned being forced to eat bland food in your 30’s but didn’t have to do so until almost 2 decades later. But aging still sucks.
I had that on my old med,
It led to some serious stuff but luckily that’s behind me now,
My new med is better for me and the low dose is ideal,
Have you discussed with your doc about alternatives?
I probably will when I see the pdoc next time.
I had my first bout with acid reflux way back in 1998. I know the pain it causes. I used to wake up night after night because the acid backed up into my esophagus and burned badly.
Even worse was that sometimes the acid came out of my nose. So I told my doctor and he prescribed Tagamet. It worked!
I was overweight at the time but when I lost weight the acid reflux stopped so I got taken of of the Tagamert.
My acid reflux flared up again years later and the exact same thing happened. I was put on an antacid, but then I lost werigt again and the acid reflux went away again.
Glad youz recovered and got better from it and that it can be attended to.
I got it this year too, probably with age, rarely ever got it in the past.
Both of my parents have GERD.
